I noticed a marked increase in top growth as early as last week, it seemed to pick up the most around July 4th-Jul 6th, hit ~1" of top growth (maybe a bit more 1.1-1.2") in 2 days or ~0.5" of growth per day, which is equivalent of what it did in spring/fall when not under regulation.

Decided to just wait until my next regular application date to spray PGR again which would be today/yesterday, but it is extremely windy so I may hold off until tomorrow. I'll be going out with 0.4oz/M Fe and regular 1.7oz/M rate of AS along with the 0.25oz/M rate of the tnex.

Apparently google maps finally took a drive by my house while I was watering, at least the lawn was looking nice and green 😅.

Same here, seems like everyone is noticing this. There seemed to be a lull for a couple of weeks where it slowed down slightly around mid June, but it's back to fast growth again.

I think it's probably a combination of heat speeding up the growth, biotic stress, and previous Spring Nitrogen apps doing their thing allowing for faster growth.

The solution of course is to slightly increase PGR rate or start using PGR at low rate where it's not being used.

For context I should have probably referred back to my previous post about using the Propiconazole instead of an app of PGR and seeing how long it's effects lasted. It seems the PGR effect from the Propiconazole was relatively short-lived, I applied it on the 26th and by the 4th-6th I was seeing full growth potential similar to when it was unregulated in the spring ~0.5" per day, so basically no suppression anymore from the Propi. I am almost certain now there is no way it could last 800-1200 GDD of suppression, I believe I only got between 300-400 GDD out of it at the most, maybe not even that long.

I did apply another app of tnex now yesterday at the 0.25oz/M rate, along with some Azoxy as a preventative app.

That makes sense. It seems to be about the same duration as standard PGR. So, that answers our question about Kreuser's terminology I guess!

Edit: You were right. "Duration of effect" means everything, including rebound:

Was the amount of growth suppression similar to that of T-Nex? You also did not really overlap the two, correct?

@Green I would say the suppression was pretty similar to Tnex (at least at the lower rate that I was using around 0.25oz/M on ~1.25-1.5" grass), I didn't really overlap them either so I can safely say the effect was mainly the Propiconazole and I didn't notice any uptick in growth until almost 2 weeks later, so close to the same duration maybe a little less than Tnex.

Went with a bit higher rate of Tnex this week due to some cooler weather coming up as we move into fall, applied it last night 8/7 at 0.35oz/M. Also made my regular fungicide application with the Azoxy at the 0.38oz/M rate tonight.

The lawn is definitely ready for some nitrogen and due for an app of iron, I was going to apply some with the PGR but ran out of daylight and was getting eaten by mosquitoes. Will probably put some down tomorrow and then water again on Thursday (last watering was Sunday so that will work out decently ~4 days between waterings). I have seen a bit of drought stress start to creep in on the 7 day watering schedule so I'm bumping it up a bit and going every 4-5 days instead since I'm using a fungicide program anyway, though I should be able to back that off again with the cooler temps as we move into September.

Overall everything is looking pretty good aside from some minor insect damage near the edge of the driveway by the road, I'm thinking I didn't get good enough coverage with the Chlorantraniliprole (used the Grub EX granule preventative earlier in the year). I will most likely switch to a liquid product next year so I can get better coverage and maybe go a bit heavier or make two applications spaced out a month or so possibly. I did dig down and find a grub in the area showing some damage, but again pretty minor so I didn't make any curative apps of Dylox etc. should be fine to recover in the fall.

Here are some recent pictures:

Skipped the PGR and went with an app of propiconazole two weeks ago (roughly 8/23) along with an app of FAS at the regular 0.4 oz/M rate. The growth has again sped up significantly around 2-3 days ago and the liquid iron is in full effect, lawn is looking nice and dark. I was out of town for the last 3 days so the lawn is a bit overgrown, I'm currently doing an incremental lowering back down to the 1-1.5" height I had it previously, trying not to stress it out since we're currently in a heat wave (been 90+ the last 3 days) til tomorrow when it goes back down to the 70s.

With the hot weather I'm starting to see a bit of leaf spot and some leaf blight in a few small areas, I'm also very close to the 2 week mark since my last fungicide app anyway so I'll be putting out some TM later tonight and then probably use the shorter 1 week interval and do an app of azoxy afterwards then resume the regular app timing.

I also plan to do another bi-weekly app of urea or ams next week through the end of the year around 0.25lbs N/M every 2 weeks instead of the higher blitz rates/more frequent weekly apps.

@gatorguy146 Thanks, and yeah it can make some good stripes, definitely need to do multiple passes to get them to be really nice. I personally am constantly mowing the same two patterns and then dealing with the consequences like having to verticut regularly etc. to prevent lateral growth and stand stuff up to be cut so it isn't laying over and growing sideways. I should switch it up and go back to doing some diagonals or something but it definitely takes a bit to get them burned in.

A powered reel would be nice at some point though, maybe once I get the leveling done a bit better, still working on getting bulk sand for that.

Hi @CaffeinatedLawnCare

I applied Propiconazole at the 2oz rate a couple of weeks ago. No PGR or DMI used there this year prior. Growth regulation is similar to (on my 3 to 4 inch cut) what I've gotten in the past on that area in other years with a 0.20 to 0.40 oz rate of T-Nex. And Supergrass estimated approx 400 GDD optimum reapplication interval for it to prevent rebound. I will follow it with Anuew at that point.

I also tank mixed Anuew and Propiconazole on an adjacent area, but with a very low rate of the Anuew. Worked great. Not at all over regulated, but dramatically reduced mowing need, which is great. Also got super dark blue/green. Previously, this area got Anuew at a higher rate. I cut that about in half for the tank mix.

I've been making sure not to overlap apps; if I need both, I apply at the same time or mixed together if possible.

@Green Thanks for the info! I want to try mixing the Tnex and Propi but I haven't tried it yet. I did repeat my results though, skipped the PGR and made an app of Propi at the regular interval and it lasted about the same length as last time.

I'll try doing a test at some point with the 1oz/M rate of Propi and doing 0.1-0.2oz/M rate of Tnex mixed in to see what kind of suppression it gives on my test plot (aka my backyard). Won't be a perfect comparison due to grass height differences but should provide some insight to the level of suppression I would expect to see on shorter grass.

I wonder if the 1oz rate yields less growth suppression. Seems like it would. But I haven't tried it.

Also, as I understand it, overlapping PGR apps more than you normally would ("stacking") just yields more growth suppression for a period of time, and not more duration.

Also, the ideal reapplication interval may be lower at the 1 to 1.5 inch height you're mowing at...maybe 300 GDD: GDD for PGR reapp on KBG

I found a Fiskars on FB Marketplace today. Do you remember where you got your front roller from? I'm looking to modify it the same as yours.

@gatorguy146 I got it from Ashland Conveyor, here is the direct link to the one I got with the round shank:

You can read the post I made on reddit about it as well:

As a quick update, I made another application of Propiconazole on Wednesday as it had been about 2 weeks since my last fungicide app (which was the clearys). No other major updates, just continuing to feed some nitrogen and make preventative apps of fungicide really. Things are coming along nicely.

Someone wanted me to post a picture here from the front yard, it’s looking pretty good for being close to the end of summer. Mostly just fungicide and a bit of nitrogen and PGR this year, haven’t really had to water much since we’ve had a bunch of rain. I have been keeping track of all the applications I’ve done so I might make a post with that later and maybe some of the highlight pictures I’ve taken throughout the season but the renovation is over at this point it’s mostly just mowing and I want to focus on the backyard project so not planning to update this one too much.
