It is water soluble but will be in a larger prill size is all. I have not seen a 46-0-0 that isn't water soluble.

It will melt. I have a few places around me that sell it and it all melts.

 

no trouble melting it. Just be sure on your mix. Too much Urea sprayed can result in burnt tips.

 

Is there a co-cop near you? They will often have 46-0-0 available. I get a 50lb bag for $20 at the co-op in middle TN.

 

By co-op do you mean the university cooperative extension locations? I thought they only provided information not actual products?

I've dissolved big ole 3/16" diameter prill home depot 46-0-0 in water with no issues. Hot water works best in my experience.

 

Thanks for the info, picking up my urea and iron today in preparation for my first application around April 1st. Very excited to really dial in the spoon feeding this year. I’m thinking this combined with a slow release granular will really help with my low CEC sandy soil.

It’s working great @Nytrainer I’ve been mixing in PGR for my lower mower front yard also with great results. The Urea even at the large pill size dissolved in about a minute or so with hot/warm water. I have since switch to mixing with Ferrous Sulfate since it is cheaper then pre mixed iron products and I now alternate between the iron with Urea or Ammonium sulfate to see if there’s a noticeable difference. Pictures never seem to capture how dark green and uniform my lawn is lately but I’ll share what I have.

 

 

What’s the benefit to melting down the urea, versus just spreading the granular urea?

New to spraying urea I did a 1000 ft2 area
Doing around .12lb N a week until mid july
It did not grow much better but it seemed to deal with the heat/summer stress a bit better and it definitely greened up much faster once the heat of summer cooled down in sept .
I stopped because I have been fighting a fungus issue and I was looking like the test area was looking like the fungus was getting worse in that area so I held off mid july through August.

 

Melting it down makes it a foliar application instead of soil. Since I am applying with other foliar products this is just to help with the absorption of whatever other product I apply.
