TifTuf Sod Install...Too late?

Hey everybody,

I live in the Las Vegas area and temps are starting drop. Still plenty warm during the day. I wanted to get your thoughts on installing Tiftuf this late in the year. Would hate to wait until the spring but if that is what would be best then obviously will do that.

The other option (which is recommended by my landscaper) is install Emerald Carpet which is a dwarf fescue. Have kind of had my mind set on Tiftuf but worried about installing it this late in the year.

Would appreciate any help/advice you have. Thanks.

I don't know what the fall/winter is like in NV but it is definitely too late here in the Carolinas.
You can put down Bermuda in the winter, fully dormant really...I will be after my pool is done.
Yes, you can put down sod when it's snowing if you would like also. I think the OP was asking if it was worth it to do it this late in the season or just wait til next spring. My point was it will not root in time and it will be a big hassle taking care of it for 4-5 months when you can just wait until spring. Plus you run the risk of losing some of the sod over that 4-5 month time frame and then just having to replace a bunch of it come spring time anyways.

I did in Feb 2019. But you have to keep it moist so it doesn't dry out. Don't expect rooting to take place until green up.

Gotcha, just thought you meant you couldn't do it.

Yeah, wish I didn't have to do it, but I don't want a mud pit all winter.

Right there with you. the mud pit was bad enough through Feb. I was done in October except final grade. It started to rain and never dried up until Feb.

How do you like your Swardman? Think I'm gonna get one next season.
