I see a variety of sod pluggers on the market, and have watched some videos about them, but can't find one I am really interested in. There is everything from the Pro Plugger to the Miltona Hex Plugger and everything in between and all over the price range too.

Which ones do you like and why/ I am really surprised with all the tools designed to be used with power drills that there isn't a hole saw version of a sod plugger that would take half most of the work out of it.

I have never tried it but Miltona Hex-Plugger in theory would work great if you have large sections you would like to repair quickly. The downside is you need to have a large enough donor plot to harvest the hexagonal plugs from. You're also going to spend nearly 10x what you would spend on a Pro Plugger.

I've been using an old putting green hole cutter, which works great but is a heavy workout (one without a lever to push out the plug). but, it gets deep and it's wide. i've seen those tiny "pluggers" from box stores and there's no way those can work well.
have been interested in a pro-plugger just for ease of use/weight. seems like it pulls a big enough plug in width/depth to keep some of the grass alive.

I think the Pro Plugger plug size is right at the sweet spot while not trying to satisfy everyone. As you say, it's large enough to keep the grass alive, but it's small enough that it makes it nimble when you need to fill in irregular bare spots. Also, a larger plug size would make it take longer to fill in the donor areas. When I take a plug from one part in my yard, I typically fill it in with dirt/sand/clay mix instead of straight clay, and even then it can take several weeks to completely fill in.

Oh, and did I mention that I the Pro Plugger is a multi-tasker? I used it to plant 100+ dwarf mondo grass plants in my back yard this summer. I also use it to take cores for soil tests. It's great all-around.
