Prodiamine failure?

Hello all,

I applied my prodiamide on my bermuda at the end of January/beginning of February at the 6 month application rate. I am seeing green up my backyard now but I’m having tons of broadleaf weeds and a little cthis spring. I’m not super surprised to have weeds as I planted my lawn last summer and brought in a lot of new dirt, but it seems excessive.

my only thought is I didn’t water it in. We’ve had a maybe 1/4-1/2” rain total since I applied.

I am planning an application of something with a different moa now that I got the lawn scalped.

It sounds like you might be seeing winter weeds, which would indicate you missed the window for your prodiamine treatment in Sept/Oct/Nov (depending on location). Your application in Jan/Feb/March protects against summer weeds. In both applications, follow the label and definitely ensure it's been watered in.

I do split applications for winter and summer weeds just to cover my butt because the weather is unpredictable.

Either way, don't worry about it. Once you fertilizer and water it this summer it will choke out most of those weeds and you can just work on better timing for the preemergent applications this fall.
