Newly planted lawn not growing well, 4 weeks into it. Any advice for best way to repair?

We just moved into a new house and I planted the lawn myself. I got some topsoil hauled in and spread around, but I never got around to planting grass for a few months. I ran over top of it a lot with a backhoe and dozer, packing it in pretty solid. When I finally got around to planting, I ran a York rake over it to try and loosen it up, put down some lime, fertilizer, and then seeded. It took a couple weeks before a saw anything. We’re now 4 weeks into it and it’s growing in very patchy. Someone said they think the soil was too compacted and I should have had a Harley rake or something loosen it up. I didn’t have that kind of money to hire someone or rent one. My question is: Should I scrap the whole thing and start over? Or is there a way I can just overseed the areas that aren’t growing? I’m very new to this. Thanks for any help in advance!

how much and how often did you water. Im going to gander that where it comes in is low spot.
Get your Irrigation in check and plan for seeding when the some weather breaks. Mow the tall stuff when it needs it.
Roots have a funny way of getting down to where they need to go.

I have stray grass coming up in a stone driveway. The base layer is 8” of crushed recycled and stone dust. Its like cement

Loosen up the dirt, just 1/2 an inch down, trow down more seed, rake it in, cover with straw, just a thin layer, water 3,4 times a day for 5 6 minutes so the top layer stays damp. Once it comes in keep on watering 2,3 times a day untill you cut it 2,3 times. If you still got bare spots after that repeat the proses. Sooner or later you will have grass everywhere.

Seeding this late in the season, unless you’re up north with short growing season, is always a risk. You need to water often & regularly to even stand a chance. For reference my Seeding irrigation schedule is set for 2-min cycles per zone, every hour from 7a - 7p. That’s for a fall seeding! I’m afraid no amount of water would allow me to seed in June with anything resembling decent results. 🤷‍♂️
