Elemental Sulfur Tiger 90cr

My soil sample recommends adding sulfur to lower my pH and I plan to do so this weekend but have never done so before. The annual recommendation is 8.6 lbs/1000 sqft and said not to exceed 5 lbs/1000 per application. I have an older Scotts edge guard max broadcast spreader which works well for my small 5K sqft lawn. I would like to spread half of my annual now and the other half this fall but unsure of what spreader setting I should use. If I apply at a lower setting, I can weigh the amount used and always add more if needed but I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on spreader settings. Also, am I correct in my two applications or should I spread this out to 3-4 applications?

Start on a low setting an do as you said. Measure how much you use across a defined area. All spreaders and material are a little different. Since you will be spreading this multiple times, better to know what you have.

For smaller granular applications I have found that using a hand held spreader works best as long as you don’t have a huge lawn, the little extra time it might take is worth the accuracy.

I just did 5 lbs \ 1K of Tiger 90 Sulfur with an Echo RB60 at setting 4.5 which is likely to be the same for your scotts spreader. Over 7,000 Sq Ft, I was only off by less than 1 pound. I always make sure to put more in the spreader than is needed so it spreads well to the very end and then I measure what is left over.

I tried the 4.5 setting on my spreader and only put down 2.5 lbs per 1K sqft. I now have a baseline for my next application and will use this as a learning experience. Not putting enough I can always add more, which is better than the opposite.
