Need some advice. I live in central Mississippi, backyard is fairly small, maybe around 3000 SF. Doing some work on a retaining wall that has turned my former St. Augustine yard into a mud/dirt pit. With some tres being taken down, the backyard now gets a good bit of sun. Should I go with El Torro/Palisades zoysia sod? Common Bermuda seed or sod? Or a hybrid Bermuda sod? I have two small kids and a dog. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Zoysia requires slightly more care than Bermuda, and is a slow grower, but it sure does feel nice on the feet! Both types of turf should be managed with a low height of cut. I enjoy my zoysia grass though sometimes I long for the quick growth of bermuda, I do find that I can "push" my zoysia and have it repair itself quickly but not in a week like bermuda grass. Both turfs can tolerate traffic.
