winter weeds and spring preemergent application

With soil temp is approaching 50 and I am preparing for spring preemergent applications I am wondering what to do about my winer weeds.

I made the mistake of paying someone to do my fall/winter herbicide treatments and I knew almost immediately that it was a bad idea - the application wasn't complete. Now, end of Feberuary I have the following weeds in ABUNDANCE in my Bermuda:

  • Henbit deadnettle
  • Hairy bittercress
  • Watercress
  • Carolina geranium
  • little bit of perennial ryegrass
  • little bit of poa annua

Last year I had HORRIBLE nutsedge and plan on using pennant magnum as a preemergent as well as a granular 0-0-7 with prodamine to handle the general weeds in the next week or two. Do I need to plan on putting down some dimension ahead of time to handle these winter weeds?

What pre-emergent did your provider use?
He fed my husband some line about using something that wouldn't also damage the seed he said he put down (which we didn't ask him to do) - and when I got home 30 min later he was done and supposedly also put down lime... on my 11.5k lawn. Liar or he's a speed demon superhero. He's fired.

@NCLawnLady Dimension is a pre-emergent. It will not kill out your existing weeds.

From your list it looks like you had the most issues with broadleaf weeds. I would recommend to apply your prodiamine as the average 5 day soil temperatures reach 55F and no later than March 7-14. Water in very good with .50 inch or better.

I would also recommend a second pre-emergent with a different mode of action to target broadleaf weeds with Isoxaben (Gallery). In the short term you could spray the Isoxaben and kill your existing weeds with this BioAdvanced season long product you can find at Lowes. It along with your prodiamine will give you a broad spectrum of future weed control and kill most of your existing weeds. For your size lawn you need a minimum of 2 spray bottles to cover 9,000 sq ft. Read and follow the labels.

In your bermuda lawn Celsius(almost every weed) and Certainty/Outrider (nutsedge) will always be your best choices for post emergent weed control. In the marketplace section of this forum there are individuals who split smaller quantities of all these chemicals to bring down the initial cost of treatment.

This does seem fishy. You don't overseed Bermuda. You push what you have with a good supply of Nitrogen and it will fill in bare spots. If your lawn was originally covered with sod the seed he "planted" won't be the same cultivar and will look noticeably different. On top of that, no one should plant Bermuda seed in the winter. It needs to go down some time near Memorial Day for the weather typical of Raleigh. He's either lying or just wasted your money.
