You should be fertilizing that area when the grass is about 2", so at that point it will be safe to walk on. This should be a week or two after they emerge.

 

I know people get all uppity about walking on their grass babies, but not me. I was walking on them since first sprouting. I will say that I walked "lightly", but 200# is 200#, tippy toes or not.

At the end of the day, 4 years post-reno, you can't tell where I did and didn't walk when they were youngins.

 

Try not to run, jump and tear the area up. I've walked one week after germination lightly. I've mowed with a 300lb reel mower at 3weeks after germination.

 

The worst thing for seedlings is tight changes of direction with feet and wheels.

If you can do all your turning around off of the new seedlings, they'll be fine.

 

I walked on mine yesterday without issue. Yeah, they get pushed over a bit but they spring back. Agree also on being careful to not plant your feet and turn.

I don't worry about walking on my baby grass since it's nestled in the dead grass. If you are seeding on bare dirt.... walk carefully.

 

I have a similar question . Is it okay to walk on before germination ? We got some strong winds after I seeded which made spraying tenacity impossible . Would spraying tomorrow (walking on lawn) be problematic for my 1 day old seed ? .

Best to try to stop walking on it after the 4th-5th day after seed is put down, because germination starts around that time even though you don't see it happening.

No surfactant, and water immediately if you're that late. No guarantees about it not turning your new grass white when done that late...

I'll definitely do it tomorrow (1 day after seeding) . I can't stomach another tenacity white grass . It turned 3/4 of my front yard bright white last summer ( Bermuda and CG ) . Neighbors thought I sprayed it with bleach.
