Correct. I added more 4th mil. But the year I bought ST2, 4th mil was either not in the mix or was at a lower percentage than it is now. The ST2 I bought from United recently has 24% 4th mil if I remember correctly.

I did buy additional 4th mil along with the ST2 and plan to add some to the mix to increase the amount of 4th mil I put down in the reno this year. I really liked the impact it had on the lawn when I used it to overseed the ST2 lawn.
4th Mil?

I've been extremely happy with this blend. On the right is Super Turf 2 planted this time last year. In the left, is Super Turf 2 planted exactly 1 week ago… had germination in 3 days.

For a TTTF it actually looks better cut shorter ~2.5" than growing longer. I don't expect the KBG in this blend to fill in as much as I would like especially in the shade, so I expect some overseeding will be needed to get things thick.

Color wise this stuff gets dark green but it's a noticeably different color of dark green compared to KBG. Bluegrass has that blueish hue to it, whereas this has an emerald green to it.
3 day germination? That’s incredible. I am on day 6. Saw some on day 5 and thought that was impressive.

How long before it really begins to fill in?

I definitely need to do a better job of mowing lower earlier on. Maybe 2.125 or 2.5". First mow at 2.875", its not tillering out yet. I'll lower it tomorrow a little on my reno area. This grass likes to be 2.5" or so, not 4". Slower growing too.

Not him, but you can check my full reno using ST2 under ‘super turf 2 renovation - Long Island, NY’. I was going to update soon but I am in the process of redoing my backyard.

Overall I still wonder if I should have gone with a different blend or with straight kbg or researched ntep trials more because I have been consistently fighting fungus since the grass became established. I had the lawn looking decent for maybe the fall only last year. So far I put down an app of azoxy early and still had an outbreak of what looks like red thread. Just put propiconazole down this week also.

What I’m saying is I can’t get the grass to look good for the amount of work, time and money I’m putting into it so I feel like I should have gone with something different.

Hi @spaceman_spiff, sorry to bump an old thread, did you end up going with the super turf 2? how did it handle your summers and shade?
I’m not who you asked, but I seeded with SuperTurf II last fall and it’s beautiful. It’s almost got a waxy sheen. I’ve had some problems in shadier areas, but those same areas don’t have the best drainage, so I’m not sure which is the problem. I reseeded those areas a couple weeks ago and they seem to be taking off. I haven’t gone through a summer yet. KBG struggles more in the heat, but if it’s not blazing hot and you have irrigation, I’d say go for it. But I would wait until fall this late into spring.

Another ST2 user. I am doing my 4th reno using ST2 this year, doing my neighbors yard and the area between our houses. I have done smaller areas so far. No complaints, in the transition zone with no irrigation. June and July can be tough with overhead sun, but if you can water, it pulls thru fine. I don't have a shady yard. I have the best lawn in the neighborhood in spring and fall

I had melting out, but I think I waited too late to start fungicide and was I watering a lot because I reseeded a couple areas. It bounced back a couple weeks after an app of azoxy. I’ve had nothing but compliments on it. It stripes really well.
