Tufted Celebration Bermuda

Laid Celebration sod last September and had a few areas that I couldn't get to grow vertically. I assumed at the time that it was a compaction issue that was compounded by the lack of rain in our area. I started off this spring by scalping and running a sunjoe with the blades over it in 3 different directions and saw some improvement in these areas as the grass started to come back. I have noticed a lot of tufting in these areas and initially thought it may be mites.

Main spot is in the lower left of pic.

Stunted grass pulled from this area...

Have a friend bringing a stand on aerator this week to pull cores. Do you think this will help or am I dealing with another issue? Sod farm was of no help and I don't know if I want their advice after they told me I should never scalp my bermuda.

I think the cool weather hasn’t helped at all and I would reassess the situation after it’s growing fully. Aerating won’t hurt anything. It’s also hasn’t fully matured yet either as it’s less than a year old.

Hey man, feel free to message directly, but that’s not mites. Celebration is super horizontal and doesn’t grow upright too much. Most of the videos online for celebration from pros say that verticutting needs to happen sveral times a season. The puffiness is due to that apparently.

Maybe @viva_oldtrafford would be able to weigh in on this as his course is celebration. I’ve also read that celebration needs less N and not sure what that looks like for you. But mites are not a problem for you based on the one image. Check out my journal so that you can see what they look like.
