Hello hello,
I have been using tric as my weed killer for a few years. Phenomenial product....HOWEVER....it is killing my Locust trees. Has anyone had this problem? What do you use in its place? My wife likes the Locust (I hate them) so I have to try to keep them haha

Sorry to hear.

The first step is to figure out how it's happening. Is this due to:
-Volatilization?
-or root action?

This is an important distinction to figure out. There are different formulations, and they may affect your problem with the trees differently.

So last year some of the trees started to yellow but it was almost a month later so I rejected the idea. Now at this point, I sprayed 2 weeks ago and some of the trees in the woods are yellowing too where I hand sprayed. The thing was, this year, I stayed a good 30-40 feet away when using my boom sprayer in the lawn portion. So to me it has to be root action. There are plenty of Locusts around on the property not near my spray zone that are fine

Triclopyr is commonly used to kill woody weeds, so it's no surprise it's affecting trees. I would say it is better used as a special purpose weed killer for weeds that need it (vs creeping charlie, clover, etc) than a general purpose weed killer.

What weeds are you fighting? If you want a generic weed killer, a 3-way like weed-b-gon should do the trick.

When I started using Triclopyr, I had just about every last weed known to man..purple nettle, clover, crab grass, some yellow stuff, some pink stuff...trees of heaven, vines, poison ivy...all sticking within the grass/lawn area. So it helped tremendously. The only thing I've had this year, knock on wood, has been some yellow buttercup looking stufff, but not buttercups, not sure what it is. Tric didnt really take care of that though. Do they sell Weed b gon in big containers? Because of my area I'm treating combined with the fact that I spray and don't lay granules or hose spray, I've stayed away from Weed b gones and box store items.I'd love to get something heavy duty

Oh yeah, I should have looked at your lawn size. You could go with a 3-way like Gordons Trimec Classic, and then follow up with Triclopyr in spots as needed. Or you could get a 4-way like Surge or SpeedZone which are a bit more expensive but includes a 4th ingredient that kills a lot of the things Triclopyr does (might want to compare the "weeds killed" list on each label to see what works for you).

It could still be volatilization. Were you using a 61% ester formula?
