I picked up a gas backpack sprayer last month, I'd never seen one in person before, and wanted to provide some quick feedback for others that might be interested:

TLDR: Nice machine if you have a lot of land to spray.

I'm very happy with it. It's in a whole different zip code than any battery system I've seen, it has tremendous power (turned way up), it's almost like a power washer vs a sprayer. If you're looking to product down fast, this is machine for you. I have the concrete tip (which is probably the best for applying to a lawn, big fan, low overspray), the twin tip (comes with the machine, like a mist action, fantastic for areas where you're less concerned about overspray and/or your spraying pesticide) and the foundation gun (which is like a power washer, very nice for pesticides or totally non-selective herbicide application (IE, kill everything in "that direction")).

It's laughably easy to start, not terribly heavy (my mistblower, a SR450 from Stihl, is heavier) and chugs along on a pretty reasonable amount of fuel. It's a tiny engine, more RC car engine than chainsaw.

The mist heads are impressive. At full pressure, it's like a fog, if you back it down, you start to get droplets. I use the mist for spraying fungicides, it's a nice easy way to get it down fast and relatively evenly. Also great for stuff like Bifen (although I use my mistblower most of the time for bug killers).

So far (about 5 tanks of fuel; 50 gallons or so sprayed), I really have no negative at all to report. It's heavy, but, well.. It's 5 gallons of water! Nothing leaks, easy to change from one want to another. Also, you can put 2 wands on at once, it has so much power you can actually run doubles. Not sure I'd do that for a lawn application, but if you're bound and determined to kill everything, or just want to have 2 nozzles available at the same time, that's a good way to do it. You could also have 2 people spraying at the same time off one backpack, which could be nice for clearing undergrowth with a non-selective.

Why this instead of a battery? I hate having to charge batteries. I have a fleet of 2 stroke stuff already, so I have plenty of fuel. But the biggest thing is that I didn't find any battery sprayers that had this kind of "kick". The battery sprayers were like pump sprayers you don't have to pump. This is more like a skid sprayer that you can carry.

I used it to spray around ~200 trees (Roundup/Surflan) and it's as fast as I can walk. Walk up to the tree, swipe right, swipe left, done. I don't lose a step, just keep walking from one to the next. That's a lot faster than I was with my old backpack or ATV sprayer.
