TifTuf sod in S. Louisiana

We just moved in March.
I had common bermuda and loved it so now I'm excited to have a respected hybrid.
I don't hate the smaller yard (~1,600 ft in total). It'll be fun to mow with my manual reel.

This yard sucked. It was totally neglected for many, many years other than regular mowing. It was about 85% weeds and 15% centipede. Two tall pines shade the right side of the lawn, which I will not worry about for now.

I wouldn't say that the sod wasn't in the best shape...but they had to source it from Alabama so I guess it was to be expected. The two pallets (900 sq ft) covered the area perfectly. Only three rolls leftover, which I laid in a shadier spot by the road for an expirement.

The backyard is a different story. There's a large live oak...probably a project for next year.

Ok! For now, it's just watering and some starter fert soon. Exciting times!!

Ha! The back yard is currently hopeless. The 55 year old live oak covers 95% of the entire yard.
I'll try to post a pic of that tomorrow.

It's been very pleasant here with temps 45-55 in the morning and afternoon highs around 80.
That's about to change drastically as total temps will hit 155 to 160 soon....and stay there for a good while...

Soil temp is currently 79 degrees with a five day average of 69.6

Honestly with the little kids running around back there for next couple years I'd probably just mow the weeds. Maybe put preemergent and one three way in the summer. Then when your ready either massively thin the trees or go with St Augustine or Zoysia which is lots more shade tolerant.

Front yard waking up nicely and looks good!

It's coming along.
I was off all of last week plus Good Friday and I think I mowed about 5 times during that stretch:oops:
We also got about 3.5" of rain, which was well received!
I found out that 7/8" and 1 1/8" both look nice, but it scalps in a couple of places, though not too bad (I think only I would notice).

I plan to maintain at 1.375 this summer for a nice, plush and dark green look.
I'm thinking 7/8" next year after leveling.

Added a soil conditioner on Sunday and spoon fed some AS this morning at .41lb per 1,000

1 1/8 back down to 7/8"
7/8" is a bit scalpy so I think 1 1/8" will work well for the rest of the season.
Struggling with what to do about the remaining PRG (confirmed that my TifTuf was overseeded)!
90s next week, but I think I'll spray it out with MSM Turf anyway after this rain is gone.
Wanted to spoon feed again this morning, but will wait until I spray the Rye.

Yesterday morning after a 1 1/8" cut on Tuesday night followed by ~3 in of rain.

This morning after 7/8" cut yesterday evening. Rain all day today.

See the dark green patches? It's rye:mad:

Worried that I've done something bad. This always happens doesn't it....
Saw after the fact that the MSM label states not to use on turf less than a year old.
I used 1/8 tsp and thankfully diluted in 1.5 gal. Sprayed over about 1,500 sq ft.
Added 10 oz of 20.5-0-0 as well, which dissolved nicely.

We'll see if I have a lawn in a couple of weeks.

Will take continue to take pictures for comparison:

Saturday 5/17: I noticed the rye present in streaks after an early morning watering. It wasn't overspray, but underspray 😣
After I mowed at 7/8” the stripes of rye were mostly gone.

Saturday evening I mixed 2.5 oz of FEature, .15 oz of Primo Maxx, 10 oz of 20.5-0-0, and about 1/16 tspn of MSM Turf (if that). This is my first app of PGR on the new sod so I went cautious with my rate.
I diluted all of that in 1.5 gallons of water.
I used some blue dye, but I don’t think I used enough.

It’s clear that I either walk too slow, keep the pressure pumped too high, or just need 2 gallons of water. My Bermuda area is just 900 square feet... I would think 1.5 gal should be plenty..?
Help?

Sunday midday - You can tell that 7/8" is a bit scalpy...I'll be leveling sooner than I thought...

An ever so slight amount of MSM Turf to finish off the rye and any other broadleaf. 2nd application in 7 days, so I was very careful, or I hope I was...
