So over the years I have used a lot of the best varieties of turf type tall fescue. Titanium, 4th Millenium, Regenerate, Blacktail, Falcon 4 the list goes on and one. But I have noticed that for the first year or so blades are finer or medium bladed similar to Kentucky Bluegrass, or even finer in some situations. But then as time goes on and an area gets a little thin the Fescue gets clumpy and wider bladed. Sometimes just as bad as K-31 or close to it.
Now I know it's not clumping fescue because of the extremely dark green color, but it doesn't seem to match newer seeded tall fescue at all. Creating some inconsistencies. So my question is what do you do to combat the problem? Dig out the older clumpier ones? Or kill it all off and do a complete renovation?
I originally thought over-seeding and keeping the lawn dense would help with this but the grass that is already wider bladed doesn't seem change.
