Pre-Emergent Applications
July 20th = Dimension @ .63oz/1000sqft
Sept 3rd = Prodiamine @ .30oz/1000sqft

I have Specticle FLO to apply this year. First time user of it. My plan is to only apply it in the areas of lawn that get Poa Annua. That’s basically the only weed left in my lawn that I need to consistently eliminate.

I have read the max .23oz/1000sqft rate can cause major root pruning & can delay green up. Also, read that a .115oz/1000sqft rate is sufficient enough. However, I assume that rate is for hybrid Bermuda. Maybe not though, really unsure?

Can you guys give me some recommendations on when to apply Specticle FLO based on my previous pre-emergent applications? & more importantly……What rate per 1000sqft do you recommend me using on improved/common Bermuda? Any advice, please?

I now probably have my 15,000sqft lawn to 80% Bermuda & 20% Bluegrass. Specticle isn’t labeled to be used on Bluegrass. However, the Poa that comes up is pretty much confined to areas of thick Bermuda. So, my thinking on that is to keep the Specticle in the Bermuda.

Does your 7oz/acre rate come to .16oz/1000sqft?
I know the Specticle label says “common or off type Bermuda may show increase sensitivity….” = Can I ask you what type of Bermuda you spray that 7oz/acre rate on?

I hope others contribute here but I’ll be using spec flo on my zoysia for the first time here this fall.

Max annual rate is 18.55oz/A, or 12.55mL/M. I intend to use the split application rate here, but only apply two applications in the fall 45 days apart. The annual rate divided by four is 3.13mL per application.

Was planning on using that rate until I talked to someone who recommended using 2.7mL. I’ll share his response as he’s used this on many lawns:

So the 4/4 split is the most widely used method with spec Flo. 4oz/A then 4oz/A 6 weeks later.

4oz/A = 2.71mL/1,000sqfr

With that said I’ll be using that info and what I learned from the grass factor on episode “thirsty Thursday w/ guardwell DFW” from September 5, 2022. Ray @Greendoc highlights some great points to consider when using spec flo. It’s right at the 57:00 minute marker if you’re trying to find the exact part.

I used Specticle G last year. This will be my first year using Specticle Flo (Rezilon actually). I am going to do the three 30 day split apps at the 3oz/acre rate per app to get better control
You might want to rethink that. Rezilon is 2.57x more concentrated and you're going off Specticle's rate. You'll be overapplying, potentially hurting the turf, and just wasting product. Rezilon's max yearly rate 6 oz/acre.

Three years ago or maybe four on a suggestion of a friend also in the business I did a low rate (about what you are saying 3z/A plus prodiamine) and I had to switch up a lot of my pre em program but he swore he got great results. Just my experience it was as if no spec had been put down I had poa put the wazzu. Spent a lot of $ of post emergent that year went back to full rate in fall and no real problems since. Just again my personal experience that cost me a ton of money more than had I just gone full rate spec.

Did you do two apps of 3oz/acre rate or just one app of 3oz/acre rate?
&
Do you now put down one 10oz/acre rate or split that 10oz/acre rate up during the fall?
I ran a 4oz on that trial that did not turn out well. Before that and since I run 9oz/A. Makes using that 18oz bottle easy on the math and usage imo. I try to get all spec down in October. And that keeps me busy especially if we get heavy rains. The other “trial” I did couple years ago or Was a split app at 4oz September while I was finishing my fall fert and then another 4oz October. Hard to say scientifically but those dozen or so lawns had less poa breakthrough’s. It just screws up my whole system and would cost me a ton more in labor with minimal benefits imo. So imo yes split spec in sept and October better than single app in October but imo not enough to justify the added expense of the labor to put it down. If I have poa breakthrough in spring I knock it out for the most part in one post shot.

Revisiting this thread, I just so happened to listen to green doc talk about spec flo applications in regard to lightly watering 0.25” and turning off all water for 3-5 days to keep the AI within the top 1/4” of soil to avoid further root pruning.

Really curious how coming out of dormancy looked with the heavy rainfall you had after application?
I’ve always applied and watered right away. Some years I got a down pour within 24-48 hours after it. One year I got a deluge of rain and swore it was washed out. Nope.
I wouldn’t apply it and hope for 4-7 inches of rain but I applied this year in 22nd. Watered in, and then a little more on the 24th. Then we had rain for several days on and off before the hurricane. I’m probably still fine, and wouldn’t think otherwise given history.

@Boomhauer - pretty sure I’ve read somewhere in the label it says that amount of rain/irrigation as well. Thanks for sharing that info though!

It really worked out great! Lawn had absolutely no poa & came out of dormancy just fine, no delayed green-up. I’ll also add, I did put down another light, 2oz/acre rate about 4 weeks after that happened as well. In total last year, I applied a total of 9oz/acre rate b/t 3 apps over the course of 6 weeks.
