If 50% of bag weight is from the coating and the recommended *** seeding rate for a new lawn is 2-3 lbs per 1000, does that mean I need to weigh 4-6 lbs of coated seed? I've contacted Barenburg as well to see what they say. Hoping to hear from them today because seed went down on Sunday and I went with the 3 lb rate.

Barenbrug has listed in some of their literature that you dont need to increase the rate because if greater germination rates and less disease pressure was a result of the coating. I am going to be using some L-93XD bentragss yellowjacket coated seed in a few weeks to overseed my green and "fairway" area. I am planning on going with a slightly higher rate but not double.

@Ngilbe36 and @Alohacessna thank you both for your replies.

Seed count makes sense. According to Barenburg there are 1,300,000 Turf Blue *** seeds per pound. Seeding at 2 lbs per 1000 means you need about 18 seeds per square inch. 2,600,000 seeds / 144,000 sq inches per 1000 sqft. That would look like this:

Does that density look correct?

Also I just heard back from Barenburg and they said 4-6 lbs is correct since 50% of the bag weight is from the seed coating.

So I'll add so more seed tonight.
