Seed Recommendation for Hampton Roads / Tidewater Region

Hello - I am doing a fall renovation. I've killed off what I've had before and tilled in lime and a week later, a few yards of BIO-COM. I am waiting a few weeks to see if any weeds germinate as a result of my tilling, then I will be putting my seed down. I was using a fescue blend and someone recently recommended Southern Belle as she said it will do well considering the amount of sun that my lawn receives.

I've heard mixed reviews about that seed. I see that Titan RX + Rendition RX in some of the literature I've come across. I am just hearing about Artimuss by Heritage this morning.

I live in Newport News. If there is anyone nearby (Hampton Roads) that would like to share a particular seed that they have used with good results, I am all ears. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm in Newport News near ft Eustis I renovated with triple threat plus its a tttf and kbg blend with good results. I'll be doing some spot seeding this year with what's leftover from last year then I'm making the switch to mountain view cultivars. I'm doing a 300sq ft renovation in my neighbors yard now and I'll be using the new gci tttf blend which has mountain views cultivars.

I'm in Chesapeake and I will be overseeding with Super Turf 1 from United Seeds. I don't have any previous experience though so... I guess I'm hoping for the best! Mine will be a heavy overseeding (close to new lawn rate 9 or 10 lbs/ksqft) on 10,000 sq ft which I have just finished Pylex applications to start taking my life back from Bermudagrass.

Super Turf 1 has :

4th Millenum SRP TTTF
Dynamite GLS TTTF
Firecracker GLS TTTF
Titanium GLS TTTF
0% weed seed 0% other crop

I'll be following to see how everyone's seeding goes!

Remember earlier you asked why I was waiting? Someone recommended that I wait as there was the potential for a lot of rainy weather in our future when she made that suggestion to me.

BTW. I was just at Peninsula Hardwood Mulch. This is the tag for the own blend, basically 50/50 Titan RX and Rendition RX. Apparently, I don't have a steady hand when shooting pics with my phone. Other Crop seed is 0.04%, Inert Matter is 0.58%, and Weed Seeds is $0.01%.

Any recommendations from anyone about this seed? Thanks

Germination on the Artimuss has been really good so far. Looks pretty promising. May I ask why you wanting to wait a few weeks?
I just tilled in 4 yards of BIO-COM and I was advised to wait a few weeks to allow any weeds that may germinate as a result of the tilling. So after two weeks, whatever rears it's ugly head will be killed off then I wait a few days to sow my seed. I think the last weekend of September is a good time for the Hampton Roads area to sow seed. Where did you get the Artimuss and can you share with us the make up of that seed. Do you have a pic of the tag that you can share?

This is available at a local store in Yorktown. They tell me it is treated with starter fertilizer and fungicide to help with initial watering and is specifically formulated for this area by Virginia Tech.

Anybody out there using this? It is zero and zero on Other and Weed but 1.42% inert matter (whatever that is).

It has two of the same cultivars as the Heritage Artimuss, but I suppose those two are very common (Avenger and Titanium).

Thanks for that info Powhatan, right on topic. I think I am going with a 25 lb bag of this. If I am learning anything, 50% is lateral spread while the other half is tall fescue. Sounds like a compromise.

Anyone else out there using this and would like to chime in?

This pic is from their website, so ignore the dates.

I used that two years ago for my overseed. it was nice but for the price per pound they were selling it for it was cheaper for me to order quality seed on line. How much is it now per 50lb bag or per pound.

I didn't ask them for the price of the AquaMaxx because they only have 50 lbs but she mentioned that they sell by the pound for $4.50 for those that may need less than 50 lbs.

The Artimuss I ordered was $100 for 25 lbs, so...about $4.00 per lb. (I say "about" because math was not my favorite subject, so I am not sure....LOL, joke).

That's not too bad of a price per pound. I like the fact that it is decent seed and not something at a low cost to maximize profits. For the renovation I'm doing on my neighbors 350 sq ft yard I'll be using gci tttf. It has the mountain view cultivars in it. I wanted to get the artimuss blend but it only comes in 25 or 50. The 10 lb bag of gci will be more that enough.

I live in Virginia. My lawn reno is currently underway, My side yard I did with 100 percent Grey Wolf. Amazing results so far. Only 10 days in and you can see pics. My front yard I did with resilience blend from twin city seeds. Also very impressed with results so far. My home is very new and is in an area with high disease pressure. That is why I chose these seeds and blends.

Speaking of math......I've been in this house of mine for about 15 years and I have never applied lime, not one time, just learning about lime.

My lawn is approximately 1,500 square feet. Per the results of the soil analysis I had done, I need to apply 150 pounds of limestone per 1,000 square feet in small applications of 50 lbs each at 1 to 6 months interval.

So my math has me applying 225 pounds of lime in total or approximately 75 pounds for each of three applications. Sound about right?

I already put down 75 lbs two weeks ago and tilled it in. I plan to seed at the end of this month, on or about October 1 so that will be three weeks after initial lime application.

Am I OK to put down another lime application of 75 lbs one week after seeding and then another 75 lbs down a month later?

Thanks.
