Hey,

Can anybody tell me the difference between these 3 fertilizers?

Green max 5% Iron
Turf Builder
Turf Builder Pro

Which one is slower release, pros and cons?

Also, what is the best form of nitrogen i should be looking for?

Best time to spray weedbgone after fertilize r?

Thanks

In my opinion all these products are trash, because they contain way too much nitrogen relative to phosphorus and potassium. Ratio is typically something like 20-0-0 or 20-0-1. This encourages excessive growth throughout the season, without putting back the phosphorous and potassium that is getting used up. Eventually in a few seasons using these products alone will destroy your soil and kill your lawn.

Ratio should be 4-1-2 or 5-1-2 according to studies, when the nutrient profile of the soil is unknown. Products like this are available in Canada on Amazon.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking the same thing. I either wanted to,

1. Alternate organic and synthetic fertilizers every 6 weeks to somewhat not damage the soil
2. Only use an organic fertilizer which is 19-0-4
3. Stick with Scotts 30-0-3 and see what happens

The problem is, organic fertilizers don't see to be as effective in releasing nitrogen vs synthetic ones.

Synthetic fertilizers I've read are ore effective but bad for soil quality

It's a double edge sword, and in Canada we don't have that many over the shelf fertilizers to choose from, it's mainly Scotts or organic ones from nursery's nearby.

Idk what to do.

You really need to compare the Guaranteed Analysis on each product and compare the N and its source and percentage of slow release. Also will show differences in say Iron , sulfur and any other nutrients

any weed/ herbicide needs to be applied when the weeds are most actively growing. Basically some where between first true leaf set and going to seed. Just follow the Instructions. I made the 2023 season the year to learn about weeds.
The use of pre emergents and post emergent weed control is like most things. Learn what and when to get the best value out of the product.
Also the thicker and healthier your lawn the less the weeds will compete.
