Hi all,
I live on a cul-de-sac and I am the straight on property in line with the road coming in. When the township plows in the winter, they make a straight line with the road and plow a big pile of snow into my front 'hell strip' (which is a 10' wide x40' long section before some rock landscaping and the main yard). Usually not a problem. Last year though, the road was heavily salted due to temps and when they plowed a TON of road salt came with it. I figured spring rains would wash it away but it was even worse than I thought. After the first couple major rains I still had piles of salt and gravel in the remaining grass. I raked and brushed it all out but the damage was done. I tried seeding back in early april but nothing came up. Even weeds haven't grown on it all year. Its a bare patch of dirt.
I assume digging out the top 4" and replacing it is the only solution. That's going to be a bunch of work for a 10x10' patch given how rocky our soil is. Any other solution to remediate it?
Once remediated I'm going to look for a salt, drought, and heat tollerant fescue to maybe reseed that entire strip. It will always get plowed in and I accept that but its also hot in the summer since it gets pretty full sun and the usual near road abuse.
thanks,
rick
