I realize there is a bermuda grass thread out there. LETS TALK TORPEDO GRASS.

Curious to see if anyone is having success with Recognition + Fusilade and Torpedo grass?

Fusilade controls Torpedo for sure, but does the safener in Recognition protect the Torpedo grass?

Thanks to Recognition my only nemesis in St. Augustine lawn is Torpedo grass.

I have battled torpedo grass for a while now in my St. Aug. If anything, selective herbicides seem to weaken my grass and the torpedoes grows in even worse! It is an extremely hearty and thick weed. I have pulled out some that are 10" with their root.

I tried picking it out by hand little by little but I gave up!
I would like to try Recognition, once it is released to the public.
Until then, I just try to ignore it and bag my clippings.

It's available to the public. Just hard to find right now. Just call around to landscape /chemical supply shops. I know a guy who got 2 bottles today

The Recognition label states that Recognition alone provides suppression of Torpedograss; I imagine adding Fusilade would offer better control.

I would think that if the safener in Recognition were of any benefit to Torpedograss, it wouldn’t provide any suppression by itself.

Try it out and report back!

Hey @redspot321 do you recall the rates per gallon for the three herbicides that you went with? It looks great btw (y)
I used .045oz Recognition / .55oz fusillade / 1.45oz Quinclorac

Note! There was damage to the SA. Thankfully it seems to have injured the grass blades where it came in contact with the herbicide, not the stolons/roots.

In the spring Ill try again with 50% of the Quinclorac (0.725oz) to minimize the damage to my SA.

Here is an example of a spot treatment 12 days after treatment. Spot treatments are tricky and can easily be overapplied.

Suppression of Torpedo grass from Recognition/ Fusilade now that’s funny. Anyone who’s dealt with Torpedo grass knows it should be called “impossible weed”. During my cooler months my Torpedo grass will slow down in Central Florida and brown up a bit. That’s suppression in my book, and I get it for free every winter, but it has no impact on this impossible weed long term. The only herbicide I know that will nearly wipe it out is Glyphosate. I agree with previous comments if you want it out of your lawn then two passes of Glyphosate across two applications. Rip out your sod and move to Provista St Aug to keep your lawn nearly free of this impossible weed. Btw, take a look at Lawn Care Nut YouTube channel and look at his results from Fusilade and Recognition. Allyn’s pretty experienced with applying herbicides and from what I can see he wiped out his St Aug on a quest to remove bermuda, and the Torpedo is still running strong.

I keep reading that it does, it smoked the crabgrass and it’s also taking care of all the st Augustine. I’ll give it a bit longer and hit it again. I’ll beworking on the doveweed this wknd with blindside.

redspot…please let us know how it goes.
Here is the 3 way combo in action.

The addition of quinclorac DID cause some pretty immediate damage to the SA lawn however it seems to be rebounding nicely. The torpedo grass has NOT come back

I'll pick the experiment back up in spring

9 Month update - There is sporadic Torpedo in the treated spot and a small patch where my wife drives on the grass :censored: :censored: I'm going to hit it again this week when I get the opportunity.

Wondering if the torpedo grass came back this year?

Also, I'm not familiar with the combination of Recognition + Fusilade + Quinclorac. Would this combination work on centipede? I'm currently battling torpedo grass in my St. A and centipede lawn. I've tried some other selective herbicides on torpedo with no luck.

Pro Vista is not a good option for Floratam replacement if you have any kind of traffic. Regardless of what Scotts says, it requires more fertilization and is a dwarf variety that grows slow. Any kind of traffic will require regular aeration and will never be a thick plush lawn. If you push mow, have no pets or kids and love to water and fertilize, good luck.
