6b. 3000 sq ft. Current grass is a mix of tall fescue, PRG and satan (Poa trivialis). Planning to replace with 2 lbs Provista KBG per 1000 sqft.
I work 12+ hrs per day, and have 3 young children, and I’m on call in the hospital two weekends between now and September, so it’s going to be tough. The goal is to get seed down by mid August. Doing things quickly is the primary consideration.
i haven’t set the dates yet, but order of operations will be:
1. Gly
2. Mow as low as my mower will go (seems to be around 1”)
3. Throw down some top soil over depressions left when I did my irrigation system
4a. Remove a vertical inch or two of soil from where the grass will meet the curb, such that the soil will end up in line with the curb, if that makes sense.
4b. Dig out 4” sprinklers and deepen the holes and replace with 6-8” sprinklers for better coverage
- didn’t get to do this
5. Rent Harley rake to even out soil including that from #3
6. Lay down PV-KBG seed 2 lbs / 1000 sqft (I will have pre-germinated in water for 5 days prior, switching out water every 12 hrs)
7. Very light dusting of Scott’s starter with mesotrione
- didn’t have time to do this
8. Light application of peat moss with rolling compost thingy
9. Light application of straw
10. Burlap over everything
I have major slopes on my lawn one big storm and it’s over, cuz I won’t have time to fix it. So keeping seed down is paramount.
- ran out of burlap and straw blankets so used straight up ez straw out of desperation
