Hello all,

First post here, but I have been reading the forums for a few days now and learnt so much from all of you. Thank you!

Two weeks ago I laid down 3000sqft of Zeon Zoysia. I have been watering it twice a day since install, and I have done an application of RGS and Air8.

My soil is clay, and not great. But before the sod was laid it was churned up by a Dingo and some "soil booster dirt" was tilled in. At that time I also added some mag-i-cal to address a PH issue. I did roll it afterwards, but not enough because it is still pretty bumpy. My goal is to keep it alive this year, and bring in the sand next year.

Overall it looks pretty green. Pictures to follow. Last Friday (four days ago) I had another 500sqft delivered. I used this to fill in gaps around bedding, etc. That stuff looks pretty rough right now - but I am hitting it with plenty of water.

I am expecting the local water company to be sending me a Christmas Card.

Is it okay if I use this thread as a sort of journal, and not just to ask specific questions? I am not sure of the etiquette of doing that here. It is okay, if not.

I do have a specific question that I would love some help with....

In another Zeon Zoysia thread a farm that helped to develop Zeon suggested hitting recently laid sod with the highest N fert possible. I have two bags of Sunniland in the garage (and two bags of milo). Should I throw either down? My initial plan was to wait until each section is a month old and then add fert.

Temperature wise, it has been a bit up and down here lately. Later this week though we are likely to hit 90, and I would not be surprised if the majority of the coming days are in the 80s.

Thanks all,

Midfielder (John)

Here are my lawn test results from April. I am sure the "soil booster" dirt has changed these results somewhat, but I think they are a decent baseline. Check out that Phosphorous!

I just checked the garage and I have two bags of each of the following:

Scotts Turf Builder - Starter for New Grass + Weed Preventer
21-22-4

Sunniland Professional Turf Fert -
24-0-11

Milorganite
6-4-0

Considering the crazy high P level, I should go with the Sunniland right? I'm so nervous about burning the new sod.

Welcome to the forum from another NCer. Sorry, I'm not too much help with the fert recommendation. I would imagine following the sod farms recommendation would be your best bet. Also I dont think it would be bad to let it root a little bit first.

Those 90 degree temps are coming in fast! Hope the water company is sending you a rebate with that Christmas card!

Thanks for the warm welcome, much appreciated. It looks like the 90 degree days have now begun!

I ended up calling BladeRunner farms and asking them. They said that the sod "probably came in hot" from the turf farm, and to not fertilize for at least a month or two.

Are you one of the folks behind triangleREELmowers? I love that site and have been eyeing up California 20, but it might be a while once these water bills come in.

That's me  reach out anytime if I can help.

Glad you got some info from the turf farm on fertilizing.

The hot days are coming for sure!

Some of these images are a couple of weeks old, and before the second pallet arrived. That is where you see the dirt gaps, or the brighter new grass.

It does look a little better now.

I know I have a loooong way to go. The sod was laid down very hastily, so there are gaps. As you can see it is also a bit bumpy. I can see a lot of sand in my future. I'll try to take more recent pictures tomorrow.
