Received a E-mail yesterday from JG saying on 8/18/25 they are releasing a new grass variety that sod growers say is the best they ever seen...This should be interesting...Most likely a new combo of TTTF and KBG....

The new seed is called Founders Reserve, will be sold online only for a limited time... Supposed to be the finest and newest varieties of turf type tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass which sod growers prefer and say is the best they've seen... We'll see on Monday, the 18th..

"Soft Touch tall fescue Experimental Designation: CDF4T is the second variety along with Soft Blade Tall Fescue in which the saw-tooth edge on the leaf blade has been greatly reduced. The result is tall fescue that is softer to the touch and mixes better with Kentucky Bluegrasses. Soft Touch Tall Fescue is among the very darkest green and most drought tolerant of Black Beauty Tall Fescue varieties and also possesses good leaf density. Soft Touch is a breakthrough tall fescue variety and a wonderful addition to any sod seed mixture." - https://issuu.com/tpiturfnews/docs/turfgrass_julyaug2022_dl/s/16667775

That sounds like a welcome advancement to me.

Agree, because Tall Fescue is the only species that really has the rough edges, which I think is an issue for a lot of people when it comes to lawn grass.

You can make it finer and less stiff, which they’ve done. But if it’s still rough feeling, it’s going to bother some people.

I think this mix is a response to the Scotts heat and drought mix, which has TTTF and used to have Thermal Blue hybrid Bluegrass, but lately has KBG instead.

Why limited edition, who knows.
