New centipede sod, when to apply herbicides

I have a new centipede yard. I laid it in two batches of sod, 7 pallets each. The last batch has probably been down for 3 weeks now.

It's doing very well and looks good enough to me for a yard I've only had since March. I always had fescue in the past so I'm in the middle of a learning curve right now with the centipede.

I have a good handle, I think, on cutting, fertilizing, thatch control, and watering. What I'm not so sure about, however, is herbicides to use. I don't have a ton of weeds, but I do have some. I'm terrible at identifying weeds. I'll attach a picture of one of the weeds I have the most of popping up. Most people in this area have to fight Bahia coming in also, and this property has some sand spurs in other areas, but not (so far) in my front and side yards where I have sod.

I'm not certain when and how many times a year to apply pre emergent. I also read that you guys are using "celsius", which I have never heard of. Most of the people I know locally that are trying to cultivate a nice centipede yard are using 24D, of which I do have some but have not used it yet. I keep reading to be cautious about 24d with centipede, but I know a few folks using it who say it hasn't killed any of their centipede so far.

I almost want to get myself a sprayer with "wings" on it to spray a large width at once and just dust the whole thing a time or two a year with selective herbicide, in addition to pre emergent. Is that a bad plan? In my head that sounds easier than trying to spot spray all the weeds I can find.

I have a lot of these guys ^^.

A few clumps of these ↓↓

I don't currently have a whole lot of any sort of weed problem, but I'd like to learn how to keep it that way!

It needs a top dress and level, but I want to wait until next year to tackle that.

The first batch of sod was terrible and did not do get well. It was a hard fight to save it

I keep reading about Celsius instead of 24-d on here, so I'm working on doing some research on that now. Which leads me to researching mso and nis also 🤦🏼‍♂😂. I'm also gonna look at boom sprayers. Quite a rabbit hole this is leading me down!

I use 2,4-D as well as Celsius but ONLY Celsius once things heat up. Also, don't use MSO or NIS with Celsius during hot weather; otherwise, Celsius has no temperature limit.

Good, because all I know is mixing with water 😋. I don't have a big weed problem. If just using water like I know will work, I'm happy with that!

I'm considering getting a boom sprayer and getting set up to broadcast spray instead of spot spraying. Also, based on what I read I've missed the opportunity for spring pre emergence application, and will need to wait now to do one in the fall?

Since this sod is so young, am I safe to do any spraying yet? It is well rooted and growing well. I sure don't want all my hard work to be trashed by weeds!

For centipede (not sure exactly where you are so that could impact the dates)

*Fall Pre Emerge in September or Ocotber

Simazine, Atrazine, Prodiamine are few options. Specticle if you're willing to spend the money.

*Winter Pre 60+ days later if you have Poa Annua problems... If not you may can get away with skipping this. If you use Specticle you may also be able to skip it.

*Spring Pre - February or March for crabgrass and broadleaf control

Prodiamine, Dîmension, Specticle

*Post Emerge Herbicides

MSM or Trimec Southern for broadleafs

Vantage(Sethoxydim) for grasses

Certainty for Sedges.

Celsisus will cover alot of your post problems, but I find myself needing other products than just Celsius.

This is the sprayer that I have access to. I've never seen it in action, but I'm hoping that the yellow "boom" with one nozzle on each end will be suitable for a broadcast application of celsius.

Our property is next door to my wife's grandparents. A lot of the things I use are actually her grand dad's, which is how I have all this stuff to use that isn't mine and I don't know a great deal about. A lot of it gets stored in a building that's on my property, and he's told me I'm welcome to use all of it.

One more question about a boom sprayed herbicide app. I laid 7 pallets on April 11, and 7 more on June 6. It's all well established, but I'm still afraid it may be too young for much herbicide of any kind.

Is that true or not? I've ordered some Celsius, and want to get some Cimarron for Bahia. I will wait until next season if I need to and just do a pre emergent in the fall.

This product says to apply in the spring and fall. Will I do any harm applying it now to my lawn? It says to allow are least 2 months between applications, which I could manage to do I think. It's usually mid October before it finally cools off around here.
