Mulch Bed Weed Control

Installed about 400' x 2' mulch border around our back yard. Didn't put down any sort of weed fabric, but I did hit the area with a couple apps of glyph before mulch down. About a month later now, we're seeing some weeds pop through. Not enough that we can't hand pull them all, but it got me wondering if you guys use anything to control weeds in your mulch areas that is applied after mulch down (as opposed to the fabric or plastic).

I sprinkle Preen granules out of the jug into my mulch beds a couple of times a year and it does a pretty good job suppressing the weeds. If you wait until end-of-season you might be able to pick it up for $5 a jug instead of the normal $13 at Wally World.

When I have a tank of Prodiamine mixed up, I also hit the beds with it.

You definitely want some sort of pre-M in the beds. If you only rely on glypho you'll be spraying the beds every couple of weeks as new weeds keep popping up.

Weed blocker fabric helps too but it will degrade with a few year's time and animals digging holes in it, etc.

Doing the above I still have to manually pull a few weeds every now and then, but nothing too annoying, and it gets me into the beds to inspect the shrubs & trees for diseases & pests.

Probably not. Just hit the mulch area like you would the grass? I'm using Prodiamine WDG, can I just spray into the mulch area when I'm doing the yard?
Yep, that may be the simplest solution for any annual weeds.

I haven't looked into long-term controls, but I remember there are products that you can put out that will remain effective for years if you're really looking to minimize your maintenance of the bedding. You should just be mindful of your planning horizon when selecting a product and application rate.
