Lesco fertilizer+pre emergent-confused when to apply?

I applied the lesco dimension fertilizer plus pre emergent .15% 19-0-6 in late march on my zoysia(North NJ). The label says apply once a year or a few times a year in split rates but I used a lot for my first application so there is no split rate for me. Since it is a fertilizer I’m worried I’ll be over fertilizing my zoysia if I put it down again just after 2 months. But it also acts as pre emergent and I don’t want any weeds coming up. So do I put down my next application soon? Or get a pre emergent only and apply that?

It's tough to say without knowing exactly how much you applied.
But if you applied the full rate according to the label and that same label says to only apply once a year, than I would follow the label instructions.
If you want to apply more fertilizer, apply just fertilizer. If you want to add additional pre-emergent I would apply a different type that uses a different mode of action.
This all depends on what you are trying to prevent. Your late March application should set you up well, so it just depends on what results you are trying to achieve.
Most people apply a pre-emergent in the fall and another app in the Spring.

Ok but the pre emergent lasts all the way until the fall? I thought most pre emergents last 3 months? This particular products says 3-5 months. So by August weeds will be coming up since I applied it in March. Or should I have done it in April?
I’m just not sure what the standard is for fertilizing lawns. Do you apply once a year and be done with it? I am worried about over fertilizing and burning my lawn. But I mainly want to prevent weeds from coming up in my zoysia more than anything. But I don’t want to buy another pre emergent product if the lesco product I applied in March will cover for the whole year which I am really not sure about.

a couple of questions to be able to help you.
1. How many ft2 did you apply this to?
2. How many lbs was the bag you applied?
Once you tell us that, we can tell you how many lbs per Ft2 of N you actually applied to your lawn
You really should not apply more that 2 - 3 lbs per Ft2 per growing season on Zoysia.
Also, if you already applied the max N per Ft2 on your Zoysia, you can put down Prodiamine pre-emergent by itself without ov er applying Nitrogen to your lawn.

My lawn is approximately 2000 sq ft, I used about 10.5 lbs which is way over(2x) what was needed for my lawn size but it just didn’t work. I used the Scott’s spreader at the 3 setting and walked fairly fast too. The bag says not to apply more than 22 lbs per 1000sq ft so that’s 44 lbs for me a year. I only applied 10.5 lbs so far.

I'm not a big fan of weed-n-feeds. They neither weed nor feed well. You're better off in the future getting them in separate products. For now, share the info @Jeffersonzoysia asked above and we can give you an idea of when you will need to reapply each. Most of us apply pre-emergent in two 6-month applications (spring and fall) or four 3-month application (called a split app). Some of us will use two different pre-emergents to have multiple modes of action and offset them. I use Simazine and Prodiamine. It doesn't have to be that complicated though; the Dimension you applied has an active ingredient of Dithiopyr which is very similar to Prodiamine. That will help a bunch keeping the weeds at bay. We just need to figure out when you need to reapply.

For fertilizer, most of us will apply lower rates but more often (called spoonfeeding). This keeps the N more consistent and prevents growth surges where you are having to mow like crazy. For reference purposes I apply .125lbs of N/1000sf each time I spray PGR on my Empire Zoysia. That is about twice a month right now but will be up to three times per month in the hot months. Again, it doesn't have to be that complicated. You can put it down each month and as long as you are not pushing high amounts per month you won't see much of a surge. I hope I'm not making it more confusing. It's just better to track your pre-emergent seperately from your fertilizer. The timing does not normally match... at least for me it doesn't.

Yea, it makes sense. I might as well buy a separate pre emergent from now on, the timing does not match like you said. But I still have a ton of the dimension left. So then Do you suggest putting my next one down after the 6 month for the lesco dimension too? I put my first one down in march so next one September?

10.5lbs / 2 = 5.25lbs product per 1000sf
5.25 X .19 = .9975 lbs Nitrogen
5.25/3.82 = 137% of recommended AI

That's pretty heavy but I think you will be fine with both Nitrogen and Dithiopyr rates. I would not apply again for at least six months (September). You also will not want to go that high of a fertilizer rate going into the fall but I think you would be OK using the lower bag rate in September. If it were my yard I would not use it again until next spring and just plan to use another pre-emergent this late summer/early fall. Prodiamine and Simazine are both relatively cheap and work great. I also think Isoxaben is another fantastic pre-em. I have never used it but from what I have read Specticle FLO is the best of the best but it can be pricey.

I am a fan of Isoxaben... Works very well as a mid-late summer app for spurge and many other weeds.

The problem with Isoxaben is it's not the cheapest as you get no where near the quantity as you do with a 5lb jug of prodiamine 65wdg or 2.5 gallon jug of Simazine. Spectacle Flo is another one everyone seems to love but it's too $$$.

Pennant Magnum S-metalachor is another some use.
