Need some advice, just had a massive down pour and my lawn has lifted, like is sitting on a pool. It's about a 12ft x 20ft area. Ilawn is over heavy clay so I'm sure the root structure is very shallow. My question is there anything that you can do to prevent this from happening and promote deeper root growth in clay. So frustrating.

Lawn is 3 years old, started pouring again so I went out to take a look. My downspout trap was completely cover was grass, completely grown over. No water was making on top of the lawn, everything was being forced under. Once a ripped off the grass water shot up 12" above the lawn. Hope I didn't cause any lasting damage. I hate clay.

@greencare How will aeration help?
Poking holes is what he needs to do to pop the bubbles right now. Might as well do it to the entire lawn.
Poking hole now will help, but you said aerate in the fall. How will fall aeration will help this problem?

In fall because you can reduce the stress on the lawn. You are opening up the soil with aerating, which will increase moisture loss in the summer.

This is your problem. Fix your downspout pop up/grate so it drains on top of the grass instead of under the grass.
