Bewitched in the front 3.5k
Mix of what was there and Fielder's Choice/ Resilience II on the 2k side.
Back is salad 4.5k mix with Resilience II / Super Turf II overseed.

I am putting more focus input wise on the front/side this year and reducing the backyard items so it is usable for the kids and dog. I will set up my above ground sprinklers with timers in the front/side again and enjoy watering less than for establishment and maybe drag one standing sprinkler around in the back depending how it looks.

Well, this feels like a luxury having time to plan vs just hitting June last year and deciding to do a deep dive on lawn care.

I have been playing with a plan for this year based on @secured2k comments on the Overseed to reno thread, here.

The Lesco Starter fert I got on sale over the winter so I just wanted to use it first. I put down enough lime last year to get the soil to 6.5 based on the bag, no idea where I am at right now with the AMS used in the fall. I was hoping to combine tank mixes in the front, not sure how long I can get away with the fungicide period in between.

These were both established last fall, I am thinking of waiting till 2026 to do pre-emergent and deal with what comes up this year to give it time to grow and establish.

I would also like to top dress at some point this year to even out my mow in the front, possibly ready to reel mow in 2026. I was wondering if I should do that in the spring or the fall?

Thanks for all your information and help here! Can't wait for the nice weather again.

Cut number 2 with the manual, still having trouble finding the lines. Really need to cut often during the growing season I guess. Just happy it’s not scalping anywhere. People stopping by to talk about the manual reel.

Side cut at 2 inches. Thickening up nicely, just dealing with squirrel/chipmunks digging and planting acorns.

In the middle of cutting the back had to stop with dad duty. Hopefully I can pick it up in a bit.

Had a little free time, sharpened the reel and adjusted the bed knife, cut some paper. Put it down to 1.25 inches. Cut the front with no bag on. I am enjoying this but it needs work at that height. Will probably put some more AMS down before the final sprinkler cycle of the day.

Hoping to get a cut in on the back at 2 inches with the HRX later, all depends on the honey do list.

9/7 Cut the Side and Back at 2 inches.

9/9 Cut the Front at 1.5 inches. Applied 13-13-13 at 2 lbs per 1000 throughout. Second wave of germination hitting from the reseeds, things are filling in. Wanted some available P for the new stuff. Will probably just go AMS after that for the season. Little too high on the N for the front and side, will adjust during the offseason.

Next app is Phosphites at 5 oz per 1000 and some Iron at 5 oz per 1000 on the Front and Side, looking for mid month. I am going to try to do Phosphites in between the Fungicide apps.

Too windy for spraying today so I ended up cutting the front at 1.5 again.

Some light green close ups of the new KBG coming up all over, will darken up as it matures.

Bonus pic of the light green rye on the side and nutsedge. There’s nutsedge everywhere. I am keeping it from going to seed before I can safely spray.

Storm is just starting so I will be twiddling my thumbs.

9/3 Back - Put some more Tuff Turf After Dark down on some thin spots. 24 DAS I would expect anything that is gonna come up would have. Gotta take advantage of this projected 4 days of rain in the 10 day forecast.

Image

Front - 22 DAS Applied 3.5 lbs of AMS (1lb per 1000) then watered. Afternoon gardened weaseled some additional seed in thin/summer damaged spots. Will try to get a cut in tomorrow before the rain, probably at 1.5 again.

Will try to spray Gravex with root ruckus and green envy tomorrow morning, rains starts tomorrow night. Will be happy to give sprinklers a break.

Weekend update

Back Overseed 4.5K sq ft Tuff Turf After Dark
22 DAS first cut

Not a ton of growth at 2.5 bagger was half full. Established stuff still under regulation. Have a few thin spots I will be adding more seed in the coming days (30 after tenacity).

Had some extra compost put it down in the back will be seeding as well.

Side 2k sq ft Obsidian PRG

DAS 16

Got a second cut on this the other day, went to 1.5 inches to see the canopy. Ended up re seeding some thin spots 8/29. Will probably go up to 2 inches for the rest of the fall after it gets going.

Cut this at 1.5 the other day, wanted to give the sprouting babies clear sunlight. You can see from the next picture a lot of young KBG in between the bewitched blades.

Image

Will probably keep this at 1.5 for the new stuff to have a chance. Will look at some spoonfeeding after 9/12.

I did get some 3336F to add to the rotation, plan is to go Gravex for all 3 when the back is ready with some AMS and my usual root ruckus and green envy.

Looking good, just waiting patiently before doing more.

8/26 Side 2k sq ft Obsidian overseed/leveling repair. Shut off water after the 4 am run. Replace blades with sharpened set. Cut at 2 inches.

Image

Can’t beat those PRG footsteps. Did not use striper, took care on turns. 10 DAS right on schedule, this forecast for the next week will help it along.

Image

Upon close review you can see it still needs to fill in quite a bit, the cut should help.

The back is about ready as well, will cut Thursday DAS 18. Front KBG isn’t close but I would expect no less 16 DAS.

Weekend update before the rain today.

Tried to get the same angles as seeding day. I measured and some of it is getting close to 3 inches. Will give it a few more days to fill in some of the slower spots then it will be ready for a mow. Normal TTTF thin blades will fill in nicely once the mowing gets going, no real issues back here. Probably start cutting back the watering after day 21.

Hard to see from these angles but there is widespread germination when I walk the lawn. Lots of pouting. Just got the alert from GreenCast about the first GDD alert. Went double so waiting for the second alert. With the cooling temps it should give it more time to come up. I also have the manual reel I can cut with to keep it short for the new stuff to compete. Will not change this watering schedule for some time. Found some washout germinating nicely in the driveway, placed that back into some empty spots 😂.

PRG doing what it does. Not quite at 2 inches yet but I am pretty sure this will be ready for a mow this week.

Got 0.8 inches of rain yesterday, steady nothing too crazy. Just walked the front and side.

The Obsidian is just starting 5 DAS.

Also starting to see the green haze of the Mazama/Bluebank 9 DAS.

Still got another 405 GDD for the Bewitched based on the double app of T-Nex, hopefully the new stuff is past sprout and pout then.

Can’t beat rain. Glad it is all coming in now. Keep the faith.
