That's a grub, and yes, you caught it in time. The ones in the first picture are very close to becoming active (head and legs pop out). Anything labeled for grubs should be fine. Store-bought would likely be GrubEX.

 

I typically spray with a UTV sprayer. I have Bifen and permethrin on hand. Can probably get some other active ingredient chemistry on Monday if needed.

 

Anybody have insight on whether or not Bifen XTS 25.1% will do me any good? That's all I have on hand, but I can make a run to the farm store. Problem is I have 3 acres to treat, so box store products are usually too expensive for my needs.

 

XTS is more than fine. An instant like carbaryl or trichlorfon would be ideal, but costly. Watering it in sub-soil is another issue, hope you have irrigation or rain coming soon.

 

I don't see grubs on the XTS label.

FYI GrubEx is also available as a liquid; it's called Acelepryn. Comes in two package sizes. To my knowledge, it's supposed to be watered in right away.

 

XTS would work great but it's a contact killer so you have to get it into the soil.

 

You could aerate, apply XTS, then water in. That should get into the subsoil.

 

Thanks for the help! I'll plan to spray Bifin tomorrow and water in as much as I can. I have about an acre that I can irrigate.
