Calibrating your spreader is an important step. I'd actually reduce the setting so you used all of the measured product in two passes perpendicular to one another.

Then write it down so you remember next time.

 

@Blay I've had this happen more times than I can count. As stated above, I reduce the spreader setting in half and make perpendicular passes until the hopper is empty.
