Hi everyone, first time posting here but I browse often. This board has assisted me greatly with a recent renovation. Anyway, I recently replaced my 18 year old B&S (Craftsman mulcher) with a new one and increased the new engine's RPM's at the same time. I'm noticing an improvement in cut quality but I'm wondering if there is any downside to doing this?

Engine life can suffer.

The engines all have a recommended operating range, based on how much heat the block can naturally reject to atmosphere. Usually they come from the factory governed to the low end, so you can safely increase it to the high end.

Make sure to keep your blades well balanced. The faster you spin the greater the bending forces placed on the crank.
