Grassy weeds are the worst to deal with and tricky to identify. Misdiagnoses leads to wasted time, money, and allows the problem to spread. Glad you may have figured out what your dealing with.

Never heard of kyllinga before. Had to google it. Looks to be a sedge.

Yeah, it all grows in a low spot in the lawn. Guess it stays moist. The worst part is it forms dense mats. Stiff.

 

I can't believe I'm the only one with mats of dense false green kyllinga infesting my lawn.

it seems, according to a rutgers turfgrass vid I watched, to be prevalant in the nj-ny-area...among others.

hard to control everything while battling heat-drought. cant fight everything. Its a problem.

 

My mom has a 500sqft section of yard that is so thick with kyllinga it looks like it could be turf! 😂
Not sure how it got in there so thick. Saving grace is that it's an annual unlike the nutlet edges and are easily pulled out. That's what I do in the section where I get some tufts pop up.. grab em by the hair & yank them out!

You shouldn't yank nutsedge or it multiplies.

I sprayed with sedgehammer but I don't see anything happening .
