I'm going to document how long it takes my damaged turf to recover after a line ruptured and spilled hot hydraulic fluid on my Tifway 419 grass.

6/18/2024 Spill occurred. Heavily rinsed the grass immediately with water. I don't think it made any difference at all. I considered making a mix with Dawn dish soap but was more concerned about fixing the mower and stopping the leak.

6/20/2024 Starting to yellow. I'm going to let the damage finish before starting to work on it. It might take a week or two to finish killing what was affected.

Day 4: Nothing but a little extra water so far. Other than the small heavy spot on the right, I think it will easily recover. I’ll probably put a couple of plugs in that spot if it dies all the way to the ground.

10 day update: Most of the dying has happened and I’m already seeing some recovery in the lighter areas. The puddle spot is going to require a few plugs. We got some much needed rain today. Disregard my ugly beds. I’m in the process of redoing them but I keep having to do out-of-town trips.

My maintenance is 3/8”. I just reset to 1/4” and will bump the maintenance up to 1/2” for the Tifway 419. In the past, I’ve been able to reset at 1/4” and still maintain at 3/8” but I think the 419 does better around 1/2” to 3/4”. We’ll see…

@Redtwin How is your Empire doing and what is your HOC? Mine's at 11/16ths with the Rolux at is looking pretty sweet. So far this year I have applied about a pound of N and a pound of K from AMS and SOP. All liquid, no more granular for me. The sulfur is helping a lot. I was very deficient according to my soil tests this year.
