So the time has finally come to pass my Mclane 25" on to a new owner. It was a good learning experience but im ready to step up a level. Im looking at my next purchase and trying to decide between the Revolution 26, Rolux X25, or JD220SL. My plan is to keep between 0.5"-1" HOC but I like flexibility. Im a buy once cry once dude. I plan on keeping whatever I buy for the next 20 years. Help me decide, even better if you have experience with the Revolution 26 or X25.

JD Pros: lowest cut, build quality, chain driven, reliability, American made
JD Cons: More maintenance, costly parts, i'm told can be finicky if not dialed in perfect. No warranty, Most expensive even used.

Revolution 26 Pros: Seems user friendly, chain driven, easy to maintain, warranty, reasonably priced parts, middle of the road Price
Revolution 26 Cons: New Product so reliability/longevity isn't known, never seen in person so build quality is unknown. Made in China or Australia?

Rolux X25 Pros: Seems user friendly, chain driven, easy to maintain, warranty, reasonably priced parts, Cheapest Option
Rolux X25 Cons: New Product so reliability/longevity isn't known, never seen in person so build quality is unknown. Made in China or Australia?

I have an x25. Bought about a year ago.

My yard has a slope so the rubberized drum of the Rolux and Rev were big draws to me.
I’ve been happy with it. Easy to backlap, simple maintenance.

If I had a less severe slope I would’ve gone with a true greensmower. I’m jealous of a couple neighbors, one has a toro the other a JD.

Rolux are manufactured in South Africa and assembled in GA. I live about 30 mins from their headquarters here so I went down before purchase. Customer service has been excellent.

I’m not sure where revs are manufactured but I think they are assembled in GA as well.

I’d also add the catalyst to your short list in the homeowner reel category. The interchangeable cartridges would be handy for verticutting.

Might be worthwhile to look at used toros and jakes as well.

This is a slippery slope you have gone down. I am in Plano and have a 220E greensmower and a Rolux. If you would like to come see the rolux vs a greensmower message me and you come by and see the pros and cons of each. I like both the rolux and the greensmower for different reasons but I am not willing to give up the greensmower so the Rolux is a bonus mower.

I have the Rolux X20, but have no firsthand experience with the other two. I like the maneuverability of my Rolux. Due to the design of the machine it can easily be moved forward and backward on the drum. Also, I can mow without the drive engaged, which comes in handy in tight spots like my privacy fence corners.

Based on 20 years, I would buy a greensmower. There's a chance some of these other mower companies won't be around in 20 years.

If you buy right, you will always be able to get your money out of the greens mowers. If you buy new, you are going to take a huge loss if you decide to switch mowers. I have owned 11 greensmowers and I have always profited when I sold them.

I run a Baroness and it will be my forever greensmower.

So I went ahead and picked up the Revolution 26. It just made the most sense to me. I'm never going to cut at less than a half inch except to scalp so a Greensmower would have been wasted. I liked the features and controls just a little better than the Rolux.

Received it yesterday and already scalped the backyard. This thing is a beast. Very happy with the purchase. It's the perfect next step for someone that doesn't want to go to a full greensmower but want to step up from a Cali or Mclane.

Don't mind Theo, he's just really wanting to get that dog behind us.

Thank you for putting your trust in The Revolution, we’ve already been here 15 years, what’s another 20 😀

Well
You asked for an update. This thing is phenomenal. Significantly better than my Mclane was. This is from today. Two weeks post scalp. Maintaining at 5/8" forgive the bottom picture. I've got some areas that always take longer to recover in the Spring.
