Help me decide on sprayer..

Moved to a beautiful new property last year with about 3-4 acres of lawn. It appears the previous owners did some weed control on some areas but I did not last year and I now have a mess of dandelions that I gotta control. Always had my previous lawn treated and now I'm wanting to take this on myself.

I've done some searching and I keep getting deeper and deeper. I just want to do it right the first time. I have a golf cart that has a bed on it that I'm thinking would work great to put a tank in with a boom.

Do I go with something like this? Reviews are not that great.

Then I see people modifying sprayers they have. I'm sure you guys have some great ideas for me.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to TLF!

I am working on a similar plan for spraying about 3.5 acres.

Not sure what the payload capacity of your golf cart is, but I would maybe consider a larger tank if you are going to be spraying the whole 3-4 acres.

I plan to go with something in the 55-60 gallon range to minimize refills.

I thought about needing a bigger tank.

Have a small John Deere with a 3 point hitch. Noticed there are sprayers for that as well.

That would work too.

You can also reduce the nozzle size/application rate to minimize refills - to some extent. I think the edge of my comfort level would be down around 15 gal/acre (0.34 gal/thousand). At that rate you could spray up to about 4 acres with a single 60 gallon tank fill.

I use a Fimco 60 gal. 3 point sprayer for 2 acres. Calibrates to about 16.75 gal per acre. 7 nozzles for a 12 foot width. I move pretty slow in the yard but i can also control it well.

Combine the sprayer and a hydro transmission tractor and it works great.
This what you are talking about?

I think this is the same?

I suppose my John Deere 2210 could handle that....

Yes exactly the one. I even bought it at Tractor Supply. Your JD should run it just fine.

Me and roller pumps dont get along so i had to change it to an electric one from Northern Tool. Works great. A lot of people use roller pumps with no problems....i'm not one of them.

On your 4 acres you could easily exceed my 16 gal/ac rate. My rate is calculated going slow dodging flower beds , satellite dish, etc. I am going between 3 and 3.5 mph. Wide open field I can easily go 4.5 to 5 mph.

On that sprayer I like that I can reach back and hit the valve to turn it off at the end of the run. Then make my turn and pop it right back on. Very easy to do. Now that I have an electric pump, i just turn it off via a switch I hold in my hand.

If there was a negative (other than a roller pump) it would be it takes a long time and a lot of water to clean it out. Thats just a part of having larger acreage. Bigger equipment and longer process.
