Hey everyone,

So here's my deal... I love the looks of a nice, green, even, fresh cut lawn with minimal to no weeds, but I am just getting started, and cant bring myself to buy $200 - $300 in seed for overseeding. From what I can tell, my front is a KBG/PRG mix, and my back is mainly PRG(full sun) with a tad bit of KBG.

I was planning to overseed my lawn as I am getting bare spots(in PRG area), but my front surprising is filling in nicely(due to KBG) up front.

I am overseeding both this fall, but can't bring myself to purchase crasy expensive(in my eyes) seed, yet!

So.. with that said, what seed is out there (KBG/PRG) mix that is inexpensive but yields good results?

I do add pre/post e to help battle weeds, as I know cheaper seed contains weed seed to a slight amount.

Please let me know your thought, and maybe some links to some seed if you can.

Thanks

Shipping can add quite a bit to price. Seedsuperstore (https://www.seedsuperstore.com/) is offering "Free Shipping" at this time. Might want to give them a look.
If price is a concern for the OP, SSS is one of if not the last place to look at.

They have good stuff, but extremely pricey.

OP, you should try to find some local sod farms or companies, they usually have alot cheaper stuff and pretty decent too.

+1 for the local sod/seed companies. ill add that you should consider researching a few varieties that you may want to buy, and asking specifically for it at those local companies. i have done that a few times w/ midnight and mazama kbg, and even though they didnt stock it, they bulk ordered some and i purchased it from them for about $4/lb. compared to $10+ from places like preferred seed or SSS

This is excellent info... we have a few sod farms near by too... maybe they have something for sale. We have a farm and home store that carries, Milo, Scotts,, Pennington stuff, and I also seen some nylon/burlap sacks of seed the last time I was in there. I was a little skeptical buying that, but maybe worth looking into.

I looked at SSS, but I dont believe UnitedSeeds... I will browse there.

Also, I need to overseed about 8,000 sq ft. My lawn is 10,000, but there is one area that is extremely thick PRG, and not too sure I have to overseed that section quite yet.

FYI - thick PRG will out compete any KBG seed you overseed in that thick area.

@jha4aamu I noticed that is some of the pictures I seen online. My KBG up front it decently dark, a few light spots but dark for most part.

I may just overseed with straight PRG this fall. See how that comes in next year. Just need to find a dark PRG.

Also, I have a section(very small) that is shaded about half the day. Not dense shade; some light shines through leaves, but what's a good seed to drop there? Should I do a TTTF? Is that good for half sun half shade or will a KBG do fine there?

Thanks.
