I run the groomer continuously on my Flex21. It is usually set just above the HOC but you could set it lower if you need to be aggressive. I would catch clippings if you are setting it deep. Running the groomer may not completely resolve the float issue but it will certainly help.

Edit: My comments above are assuming you have Bermuda or Zoysia.

 

Do you still have to scalp during the year?

 

I still think using a groomer helps throughout the season. It will minimize float and improve cut quality by reducing lines from the mower edges.
