Same question here in DFW? I keep second guessing myself for when to drop. With things warming up and a little green starting on the St Aug, I'm thinking maybe a slow-release organic fert?

 

I'm all in on this topic too. Im sweating my St Aug too here in DFW. I was hoping the rumors were dramatic but my guy Neil Sperry said it's a wait and see too.

St Augustine from my experience will come back. We have snow four times in 2015 and the lawn came back so I see no difference here. Having said that there will be a late green up and I mean late. My grass is usually green in March now I don't expect green up until mid April

I usually try to cut my St Aug down to 2.5" or so at the beginning and maintain at 3.5" or so depending on how it's thriving under my live oak.

Do you think I'm ok going ahead and doing that or just wait? Will any micronutrients help it currently?

Or just don't touch it until it greens in April?

I don't do anything but spray pre emergent until green up.

 

I am going to rake tomorrow to pull out some of the dead blades and leaves. We are probably past any remaining frost, so opening it up to more sunlight can only help.

 

Organic Chicken poo will help with the unlocking of the tied up fertiliser you may have applied last summer/autumn.

 

I'm slowly seeing green popping up. Mowed yesterday to bag all the leaves that dropped last week. Thinking I'll hold off on putting pre emergent down since it tends to stunt the root growth on my st aug. I may just stick to spreading compost as planned later this month to help with the soil. We only have a few inches of topsoil sitting on top of all this limestone. May add some humic.
