Fall leaves and seedlings

I have a lot of Oak trees in back. On my last renovation I kept the leaves off the lawn with my blower.

This year, I am seeing the leaves much sooner. My reno just started germinating yesterday, I'm only seeing some areas with it finally sprouting. Would you guys walk on it to blow off these leaves, or just continue to let them accumulate?

That looks mild so far. You should be able to wait awhile. I'm dealing with the same issue. We have a huge Big Leaf Maple in the back yard and many other maples around the yard and have had a couple severe wind storms this weekend with more expected littering the yard with leaves and seeds that completely block out the ground in places. Our power was out nearly 24 hours yesterday to today.

I was late seeding due to supplier delays and with the cool weather the coated seeds are just now germinating. I finally used the leaf blower today although I would have preferred to wait. For me I was more worried about a thick covering of maple leaves smothering my germinating grass seed than my footprints. A balance between damage from the leaves vs blowing away grass seed and walking on the lawn. Walking on the seeds was the least of my worries.

I'd wait until 1 week after germination and then gently blow. Seedlings can crawl and try to get light for quite a while before they give up. I saw a photo of a fescue seedling that with moisture it was crawling trying to find light until it was like 5" long. I've seen new seedlings grow and survive under my sprinkler for a week. Right now the leaves trapping the moisture may be a good thing.

But then stay on top of keeping those seedling seeing light after your first blow.
