There are several companies that advertise dog treats that would stop dog urine spots in the lawn. Anyone had any luck?

No, they do not work. Had em all and used em all. The only thing that works is every morning when your dog pees take a pitcher of water and drown it. Dogs pee the most in the morning which causes the biggest burn spots. I have found doing this really helps and the pees throughout the day don't really cause eye sore burn spots. My theory is also that the grass is waking up in the morning to the sunrise and absorbs all the dogs pee vs. the afternoon where it is already "awake".

I have to mini aussies that live full time in the backyard. Lawn is common bermuda and dogs urine hasn't caused me any problems yet. Ive had one of them for 2 seasons and the other was added early spring. Only thing I've done is 2 rounds of gypsum and 3 of ammonium sulfate and regular balanced fertilizer. Some folks swear it's the gypsum and others the AS. Who knows. Lol

Dog pee is high in nitrogen, that's why you see the burn spots, and then surrounding that is usually a nice deep green color.

The reason the pee is the worst in the morning is the same reason your first morning pee is more yellow than your later day pee. You're body spent the night digesting food and since you don't drink water overnight, its a higher concentration of waste that comes out and gives it the darker yellow. Same thing will happen if you take multivitamins, they make your pee change color because your body is disposing of the used nutrients. If you drink a bunch of water, your next pee will be watered down and lighter in color.

For the dogs, its the same process with their first morning urine. Pouring the water on it is helping water it down and dillute the high concentration of fluids into an amount that your grass can handle without developing burn spots.
