Hi, I’ve been dog sitting for a month and since I had no prior experience with grass urine spots, I’m not sure how I know if these spots need to be repaired or they will bounce back? He only used these spots once so it seems strange the grass would die from it, but could be that’s how it works. I’m in zone 6b NJ and the grass is pretty much still dormant. The grass mix is Scott’s sun and shade which is All Purpose Mix Of Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass & Fescue. Any advice? I tried pulling on the spots and the grass is very firmly attached to the ground but maybe bc the ground is possibly still frozen?

Dog urine is like spilling fertilizer ( nitrogen).It burns the grass where it’s concentrated, but greens it up nice on the perimeter. The brown is dead so unless you have grass that spreads with rhizomes or stolons, it will be a bare spot.
I am on that path. When ever I am outside I fertilize my yard with urine. Haven’t noticed spots like a dog. But then again dog urine is much more concentrated since they do not consume as much liquid as humans do.
I am going to experiment. Beer has lots of water so it would not be concentrated. So bourbon neat, or tequila shots, or something similar would be a great test. Only problem is remembering whats what after a dozen shots
