Dime sized holes all over lawn

Have been seeing dime sized holes all over my lawn and nothing going on or out of them.....until now. Small perfectly shaped holes with no dirt kicked on top of them. Almost as if someone went over my lawn with a small rebar pole and stuck holes everywhere. It was a fairly long dragonfly looking winged insect, however it looked more like a wasp. Almost as if the two had a hybrid lol either that or a really really long skinny black wasp. It was large enough to be spotted on slightly bare ground from about 25ft. Anyone have any idea? I sprayed raid wasp killer on it, and it definitely died but I don't have a good pic of it. I suppose that indicates it's some form of wasp....but what? Here are the holes.

Interesting. I'll have a look into it. Wonder if bifen gets rid of them. I've sprayed plenty of times but the holes always come back.

Can confirm it's sand digger wasps. I guess keeping my lawn watered is all I can do. With regular temps in 105-110 range lately, my lawn might just become a desert
