Hello Forum Members,

Wondering if anyone out there has or has used the Cub Cadet Ultima ZTS1/ 2 models? They are Cadet's Ultima zero turn with a steering wheel. I have searched the site (no posts) and performed many web searches for review/ feedback and not a whole lot out there.

Bottom line is my Craftsman died at year 21 - I am bummed but it was a good run. I am looking at replacements and have a few models in mind but the ZTS is giving me a moment of pause due to it being zero turn, has a steering wheel with the front wheels 'not floating', and also can manage hills (20 degree slope) per their specs. I have a sloped yard that ranges from about 5-20 degrees (maybe a little more than 20 in one area) but did not have any issues with the Craftsman navigating. I mow about 1/2 of an acre - with landscaping & trees (I have some turn radius issues at times).

I am trying to determine if this ZTS would work with my yard and other activities - pull behind aerator & pulling a gorilla dump cart up a 15-20 degree hill with a couple hundred pounds loaded (I think it is rated for 250 pulling). I do like to stripe so that is also a consideration.

Looking for some feedback from real users and not 'reviews' from people who were sent the mower from Cadet.

Thanks

P.S. I have looked at the Cadet XT2, ZTS1/2, JD S240, JD X330/ X350 - if there any other models I should consider (understanding the above considerations, please let me know).

I have one of the early models from Cub Cadet. They weren’t big sellers and when I got mine in 2021 it was already 3 yrs old but had less than 15 hours on the mower. This one has 4 12v batteries in series. Love the handling of the mower, like driving a lawn tractor. Minimal turf damage. Top mowing speed of 4mph. I have about 20K feet of lawn with a slight slope. There is a display for “heavy load” and as long as I keep it out of that zone as much as possible I can get 1.5 cuts on a single charge. My batteries are nearing the end of their useful life. 2 years ago I could double cut the lawn with a single charge. Replacement of the batteries is not cheap. Local Cub Cadet dealer quoted me around $1400 for the 4 batteries plus labor.
As far as towing goes is it very limited. I have an Agri-Fab core aerator 40” wide that I pull behind. I have to add weight to the aerator to get good cores and on flat lawn it does ok, any slopes it struggles. Now that will change based on weight of the driver.
With the cost of the battery exchange looming my plan is to sell it for a few hundred dollars and get one of the new EGO zero turns that has the steering system like the RTS. Ryobi also has a new zero turn that has a joystick as well but I have not seen that in action yet.
Good luck.
