Always buy blue label if you can. The big question is can you even get seed from GCI or your seed of choice right now? What is your plan as the time is ticking away for when you need to have the seed shipped and thrown down. You may want to consider pre-germinating your seed and blending with milorganite or another starter fertilizer to get it through your spreader.

 

I purchased blue label certified TTTF peninsula blend in VA from my local hardwood mulch yard. It’s Titan GLX and Rendition Rx fescue. I also mixed in some GreenView sun and shade mix for the PRG and Kentucky blue. I’m still in the early stages of it growing but it’s doing fantastic right now. The rendition Rx is the fescue that shoots out rhizomes to help increase density so I’m excited to see how that does in the yard. I’ll never buy grass seed again from a hardware store

 

Can’t decide on grass seed

Considering Jonathan Greene Black Beauty Ultra, JG Sun and Shade (or another JG?), GCI, or Blackout.

Zone 6A. What are the differences between individual JG blends like Ultra or sun and shade? Comparison of GCI blends? Between the brands themselves?

I want to invest in a little higher end seed than Scott’s, but it seems like the prices are actually similar between those rather than there being a seed somewhere between those and Scott’s…

Thoughts and help appreciated.

The JG differences are in the blends
JG BB Original is all TTTF
JG BB Ultra is TTTF , KBG , PRG
The shade and traffic blends are a mix of the above and or addition of other PRG and Fine Fescues

Its best to flip the bag over and google the cultivars and see if you like them

Be mindful of the Crop Seed Pecentage and weed seed percentage
Im convinced I got some unwanted “other crop seed” in a area I used JG Original ….it was the only thing available last minute at the time.

 

If you want high end seeds, buy GCI Cool Blue or Blue Heat if you want only Kentucky Bluegrass or the cool season grass blend from Twin City Seeds. They both ship quick and you should get it within a week or less.
