Hello All, I am new to the forum and also lawn care. I have had lawns in the past but haven’t really ”cared” for them. Last summer I planted 3600 sq feet of tall fescue seed. I live in yamhill county which says I am in zone 8a and 8b.

I am dealing with some issues with weeds. I am looking for suggestions on a good broadleaf spray and a suggestion on how often to use it.

I am currently using a weed and feed every quarter and then another fertilizer called empirial green every quarter.

I am wondering if a broadleaf spray once a month would help mitigate any weeds? Any and all suggestions welcome. I have deer and other critters going through my lawn at all times as well so that is another factor. I can Post pictures of my lawn as well as more information if you need it.

Thanks,
Dan

T-Zone or Speedzone. These will take care of most weeds except Yellow Nutsedge and Crab Grass. The best way to manage weeds is a thick lawn and pre-emergent. Weeds become almost non-existent. Grassy weeds (Poa Annua/Triv, Quack, Perennial Rye, etc...) are a different story as herbicides are not effective on them.

How many weeds do you have?

Thanks for the reply. Not a ton, but enough that it bothers me. I have spent some time pulling them but they keep coming back. I am wanting my lawn to be lush and green. I have some spots in it that aren’t as full and nice as others. I will get some pictures tonight when I get home and post them on here. I just ordered a sprAyer that has a 7’ spray pattern so that I can treat it properly Once I come up with the proper protocol.

I have some areas that are a dark emerald green and some areas that are a greenish yellow.

Ideally we always spray the correct herbicide (dependent on target weed) at the optimum time. Over-applying is never a good thing, both from an environmental as well as weed resistance perspective. So the suggestion is to know what weed you're targeting, get the right herbicide for it it, and apply in accordance to label and BMPs. One or two applications will typically get most weeds.

The 3-way or 4-way, like the Speedzone recommended above, will have a wide enough range of effectiveness to cover 90% of what you face.

Post a pic of your problem weed and you'll get feedback on how to tackle it. It sucks to spray ineffective herbicide for your target weed!

I use preemergents Dimension and Barricade alternately and ensure 12 month coverage unless overseeding. The rare weeds that find their way throw are hit with Speedzone. I had one small weed in my tttf this whole year. If you do it right, you won’t have to do any monthly weed treatment. I’m not a fan of any combo product like weed and feed. Your also feeding the weed.
