Bermuda to Zoysia in North Carolina

I'm not a fan of Bermuda in the Western Piedmont of NC. It's seems to be Dormant nearly half the year, and it's doesn't really seem to thrive in my soil either. Also, I don't think Bermuda looks all that great when cut at 1.5"+ from a rotary mower (no plans on purchasing a reel one). I am seriously thinking about switching my Front Yard to Zoysia, as it seems to be better suited for a transition zone. Anyone do this, and what is the best approach?

I think you'll find the same to be true for both cultivars in that area to be honest. You might get better results from a wider leaf, but perhaps take a look at some of the golf courses, and playing fields in your area for insight on best types.

I'd imagine with how wet WNC gets, and the various temp swings, KBG would thrive pretty well and cut just fine with a rotary.

Nothing wrong with the old zoysia standby 'Meyer' zoysia. I have had it for 30 years in northern Virginia, and have never had any "winter kill." It is green from May 1st through October)-use to be mid-October but seems that we get an additional 2 weeks more green lately).
You could go these newest hybrid tall fescue but if you like the look of Bermuda and zoysia, you will NEVER like TTTF. I like it for someone ELSE's lawn !🤣
