Bermuda putting green w a cali trimmer?

As my bermuda is thickening up I am toying with the idea of cutting a putting green into the backyard.

Can this be done on common bermuda? I am not looking for a regulation green; just something to play around on.

Can a cali trimmer maintain a hoc conducive to putting? I am maintaining on the 4th lowest setting, so I have room to go down.

Assuming yes to all of the above, do I just scalp as low as I can, then maintain one setting above that? I assume the green will need time to thicken up even more before its usable?

Thanks

I'm cutting my 419 at .25" and it would be pretty slow to putt on but you could putt around. I'd still do it though if you are motivated. You would get better performance if you sand it regularly and roll it. Absolute worst case scenario is you could use it for a chipping green.

Just for some perspective on what a pro golf course does, the putting greens at Atlanta National Golf Club where I worked were cut at 3mm...or 3/32. That was bent grass and was a daily cut to keep that short. We cut every morning at 6 am. Maintenance guys spent every afternoon tuning our 9 TruCut mowers. The grass in the catchers literally looked like green powder.

I love mowing, but even at 1/8 you'll be mowing every other day probably.

@Redtwin Your's looks great at 1/4. How often are you cutting?

Thanks @WarTide.

Right now I am mowing every 3 or 4 days but once it gets hot it will be every other day even using T-Nex. I just started regulating for the season. I'm hoping to get a better balance on my PGR, watering and fertilizer this season and maybe only have to mow every 3 days through the hot months.

Yeah, that had me scratching my head. Trucut doesn't make a mower that goes that low and there grass catchers are worthless at catching grass :)
