Here's a picture of the front 4k from today. (10-9) I didn't realize I had it until I was putting it in my renovation thread.

Also, I forgot to add that I trimmed the trees that hang over the neighbor's back fence in the front side yard. I needed to trim everything because otherwise they're smacking me in the face and everywhere else when I go by on the zero turn. Now it won't be an obstacle course when I mow. 😂

I'm full of updates -

Updating my calendar for today's stuff and just realized that I had planned to use the Lesco starter fertilizer for the first application on the Front 4k and instead I automatically used AMS.

Oh well.

I guess I'm just following that fertilizer recommendation on the soil reports. It said no phosphorus anyway so I guess I was just being a fortune teller. 😂

Ugh. I'm pretty sure the fast acting stuff I saw was much more expensive. So this is going to take years. :-( That stinks especially since I have a feeling it's a major contributor to the yearly root disease death toll.
The farmers out here buy it in bulk and have someone spread it. I think this might drastically help the disease you’ve been fighting!

Me too. I hate the fact that it's going to be years before I can actually correct it. :-(

Yea I'm not sure about the fast acting stuff or how it works. My thinking is it would be better to get the PH up slowly vs fast, but I also have no experience with any of that. I'll be doing my soil test again this spring and see if any of the 90lb/1k I put down did anything over a year.

Front 4k 22 DAS 15 DAG

Cut at 2.125" - decided to go diagonal today for the first time since overseeding. I did my best to match the rows/stripes on the 2 front sections even though I cut them separately.

Here is that beautiful undead zone near the sidewalk. This is what the whole thing would look like if it hadn't been attacked by whatever mystery disease I am dealing with.

Instead, this is how most of the rest of it looks. The seedlings are showing a little but the brown overpowers them. Hopefully with the rain this weekend and the fertilizer and maybe a couple more trims the new stuff will start to thicken up. It's still mostly 1-3 blades.

Overseed 7 DAS 0 DAG

I'm going to call today germination day and let tomorrow be 1 DAG. I'll just have to deal with the "uneven" math.

This is the nook section around 1130am today.

Same area with a flashlight around 10pm

It's easiest to see in these big bare areas. I have to search a little harder in the areas that have more grass and debris but I saw germination everywhere I checked so I think it's safe to officially declare today Germination Day.

It looks like most of the heavy rain is forecast for overnight tomorrow into Sunday during the day. We're supposed to be getting some hefty winds on Sunday. (40-50mph) I'll probably bring the hibiscus into the garage and anything else that might blow away.

It looks like it should be finished raining around Monday afternoon so we'll see how much it ends up being and I'll get out and catch up with my spray applications ASAP.

I'm sorry everyone. It's just too overwhelming. I know it's stupid of me to not do it but every time I look something up it doesn't match. Which of course is why I should try to get it diagnosed. I wish I could just pay someone to come and figure it out.

BTW I've never actually seen the roots. I haven't dug anything out. And it's never black but a dark brown like wet peat moss. So I never know if people are exaggerating the "black" or if what I am seeing isn't even what they're talking about. Whatever it is, T-Methyl, Azoxystrobin, Mefenoxam, Propiconazole, and Chlorothalonil don't stop it. At least not with any of the applications I've tried.

I never know if I should water in or when or how long. I never know if what I did was enough. (obviously not) I never know if the timing was right.

To be honest, in the back I've just given up. It's overdue for any fungicide. The last thing it got was a ton of Mefenoxam but it's been weeks and I'm sure there's absolutely nothing fungicide wise out there protecting anything. Because I feel like I've just been throwing money at it because I'm stupid and can't deal with figuring it out.

Can't do it now. Need to leave as soon as front sprinkler is done and go mow other people's lawns (grumble - it's not that I want to do this, I'm just stuck with it which never helps my mood)

Then I have to come home and get back to SunJoe lawn abuse under the heat of the sun or possibly while standing directly on the surface of the sun.

I'm just saying "pythium" because whatever it is seems to work that way. I figure it's something in that "class" but then the Mefenoxam should do something. Maybe it did. Maybe that's why it's not all dead. But I can't spray $50 worth of Mefenoxam every 2 weeks so it'll just have to die. Not to mention that you're supposed to rotate and how do you do that when none of the regular stuff even works on it? Oh yeah, you buy the cyazofamid which costs exactly twice as much as the Mefenoxam. With my luck it will still die and I'll just be out another $100.

I'm grouchy.
I'm outside Raleigh NC in Zone 8a. These browning or dying areas in your pictures: do they appear every year? Are they roughly in the same locations? My lawn has very thin soil on top of clay aka "Carolina Concrete" that varies in depth throughout my yard. I amend every year but it will take generations (or very expensive grading work, bringing in loamy soil) to build up the soil. What I experience is the areas with the thinnest soil begin to look like your pictures every year. Over time they get smaller but oh so slow.

They do seem to be happening in the same places but I haven't found any big problems with clay here. There is some but it is not a solid layer hiding below the surface and isn't particularly hard. Generally I seem to have pretty decent "dirt". Besides the low pH which I think is definitely contributing to the problem.

Quick Sunday night update.

It was very windy but overall we didn't get all that much rain. When I checked the gauge around 11am it was at 1". Now at 240 am (technically Monday morning) it's still sitting at just under 1.25".

Needless to say - coulda woulda shoulda

I could have done my spray applications in the renovation section on Thursday when they were due. Now I will have to continue to wait until the wind dies down. I may be able to get it done Tuesday afternoon. I'll watch the wind tomorrow in case I can get it done tomorrow evening. (Monday)

Here's a picture from earlier today. I stayed inside all day and worked on catching up with my bills spreadsheet.

I was very behind since I have been spending every waking minute in the yard. I pretty much neglected everything else. The last time I did it was at the beginning of August. Since then, I have spent over $1k on the lawn/supplles. That's pretty much beyond ridiculous and although it includes the $200 for the renovation peat moss, it does not include the $300 for seed. (just the $80 for the extra seed)

I wish I did the math wrong but spending over $400 on Mefenoxam alone will get the total up pretty quickly.

Anyway, here's the picture. Nook section with a green haze.

I will probably have to water tomorrow. We'll see if the misty weather sticks around or not.

Yes, I am glad I did my lawn budget in the spring and have ignored updating it 😬.

Is it still windy and cloudy with no rain in your area?
I'm horribly lazy today and hadn't looked out any windows yet. But according to my cameras it rained this morning. For me, that was good because I needed my Mesotrione / fungicide application from yesterday to get watered in.

Right now it looks like things have dried again. (sidewalks and pavement) I think the rain was around 6am - 10am

It was probably heavy drizzle / light rain. It's hard to tell how hard it's raining from the cameras unless it's actually pouring.

It doesn't seem to be windy right now. My eyes tell me it's just a little breezy. The weather channel tells me it's 10-20mph winds..

Oh good you got rain, in ours it's just cloudy and windy with no rain so when I ran the sprinkler the mist was just flying everywhere. I had to get up and water it myself.
